Yesterday I had the rare privilege to watch a baby elephant be born at the Oregon Zoo.
It was a hurry up and wait situation. Photographer Chris Rhodes and I arrived shortly after eight-thirty am. The mother elephant, Rose Tu, began to go into labor the morning prior. By 11 am yesterday, her water broke.
We were in the media area along with zoo staff and volunteers watching a live video monitor of Rose Tu and two other female ele...

That call may have saved her Mom's life.

This one is a talker!
A nine year old Albany boy walked around with "crackling" noise in his ear for two days until he finally went to the doctor to find out the cause.
Turns out, it was two spiders crawling around near his ear drum.
The boy, Jesse Courtney, says he wasn't in any pain, he was just "bo...

Since I just lost the blog I spent the past twenty minutes writing, I decided to change topic to "Photographer's Music." Each of the 17 or so photographers has his/her preference.

Photographer Tim Jacobson and I are driving back from Sweet Home. He's playing Foo Fighters. It's quite the compromise to liste...

(A gracious interview. Casey, Emeril and me)

Having lived on the Gulf Coast for four years before moving to Portland, I was used to covering hurricanes and the damage left behind. I had spent countless weekends in New Orleans, eating beignets at Cafe du Monde and shopping on Magazine Street in the French Quart...

Today photographer Kristen Henderson and I went to Salem to talk to a female soldier about surviving a roadside bomb. We drove through the beautiful Willamette Valley, and found the soldier and her family in a house tucked away off a windy road.
Staff Sargeant Tara Hutchinson was riding in a convoy last Febru...
