By Antonia Giedwoyn, KGW.com producer/writer

Dear readers,

After nearly six years of bylines for kgw.com, it's time to write a bye-line.

I'm leaving KGW to attend graduate school at Pacific University, where I will pursue a doctorate in clinical psychology. I'm extremely excited to embark on this new endeavor. And yet......

I'll miss the frantic pace of breaking news...

I'll mis...

KGW political analyst Len Bergstein blogs on the ballot measure races for M49 and M50 starting at 8 p.m.

A random thought -- even with the failure of M50 , health care remains at the top of the list of issues most Oregonians want their government to solve...that means even more focus on the Health Commission recently appointed by Governor ...

The Perfect Bike Commute

10:04 AM Tue, Sep 11, 2007 |
Frank Mungeam

Let's just cut to the chase: I am a cranky commuter.
I fidget waiting for lights to change, I get frustrated poking along on the freeway, I get impatient behind slow drivers but also don't like being tailgated by faster drivers...so I know the problem is with me!
Which is why yesterday was the perfect commute.
In my dream world, I would time every light perfectly, enjoying a continuous, uninterrupted journey, flowing smoothl...

by Carol McClain
KGW-TV Producer

I live in Sellwood and I drive across the Sellwood bridge every day.
Twice.
I barely even think about how unsafe it is as I commute to work and back home.
I ignore that it rated a two on a scale of 100 for safety.
That the west side approach is built on a slide.
That some of the parts used to built it were recycled.
From the Burnside bridge.
Built in the l...

On site in Minneapolis after collapse

By David Krough, kgw.com Producer

Made a trip to my hometown this weekend for a family reunion. Just happens to also be the site of the biggest news story in the country right now, the Minneapolis 35W bridge collapse.

Anyone who knows the area realizes that this is the main artery into downtown from about three different angles.

I traveled it dozens of times a week when I lived in St. Paul and at teh University of Minne...

RaptorCam Irresistible

When we added a Raptor Cam to kgw.com's web site, I thought people would enjoy it but we had no idea how popular it would become.

This spring, a pair of Red-tailed Hawks chose a fire escape outside the viaLanguage office in downtown Portland to make their nest. Not long after, mom laid a pair of eggs and the watch began.

Historic evening -- with the Governor gaining momentum for a second term and majorities in both houses to move his agenda [education/higher ed, healthcare, alternative energy. Gov's victory can be traced to strong showing in special session, building a strong team [Jim Ross running campaign, Lisa Grove message strategy, Josh Karden and Tim Nesbitt]. Pat Egan as Gov's ...

911_AMERICA_REMEMBERS110x96.jpg

I will never forget where I was when I learned of the attacks on the World Trade Center.

I was in the most remote part of Oregon, in the Steens Mountain Wilderness, riding in the week-long 'Cycle Oregon' bike tour with 1,500 other cyclists.

It was overcast and cool as I ...
