I admit it. The only rodeo I've been to is Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles.
So when photographer Steve Redlin and I filed a story today on an 18 year old rodeo cowboy from Lebanon, I didn't know much about bull riding.
Fortunately, Steve grew up on a farm and filled me in on the basics during our drive down I-5.
We were going to talk to the dad of a teen who was bucked and stomped by an
18-hundred pound bull.
The dad had taken compelling home video of the accident.
When you watch the bull kick and trample Tyler Gorham, you wonder why anyone would put themself in that position.
But the dad said it's the adrenalin. Tyler suffered a gash to the scalp, a broken hand and a bruised lung. His concern? Not qualifying in the competition.
His dad said right before the gate opens..bull riders are deaf to the chanting crowds and the loud music. They're deep in thought about winning.
And that's where his son's focus remains..on those elusive eight seconds of glory.
