July 2006 ArchivesEVIDENCE ROOMS Ever stepped inside a police evidence room? Its kind of interesting. Every stolen bike, every empty backpack and every brown bag with who knows what inside, tells a story. Some are tiny rooms. The West Linn police evidence room would barely fit a car inside. In fact it looks allot like my garage...a couple storage bins, some bikes, some power tools. No place for the car. The West Linn room included some... Today is the second annual "Livestrong" Challenge in Portland. As a reporter, heading to a big forest fire is a thrilling adventure. We grab our protective clothing, yellow shirts and green pants made from Nomex, which makes it harder to burn, but lets not find out, and special wild land fire boots made by the Danner company from Portland. Well, 'twobears' wants us to stop saying anything more than we've said about the heat: "I personally do not think that 105 degrees is excessive heat." For more than a century, you could always count on one western Oregon city to be dry on a certain day. That city was Salem, the day without rain was July 12th. Since we started keeping records in 1892, it had never rained on this date. Need to schedule a family reunion? A class reunion? Maybe a wedding? If so, this is the day you knew you were safe to have the event outdoors...even though it's Oregon. But today, the rain starte... |
