Been awhile since I've been able to post, a combination of tech issues, vacations and a very busy newsroom. But you are not here for excuses.
And unless you're going to be AT the Ducks game on Saturday, it's llikely you'll be attending one of hundreds of performances for MusicFest NW.
Friday, I recommend the Jealous Butcher showcase at Someday Lounge, with the valiant Arms, Wow a& Fl...

It's been a surprisingly busy news week here, considering the holiday that usually everybody takes off early for to go relax - but what a TON of great happenings this Fourth!

One of the coolest things I've ever done was cover the Olympic Trials under way in Eugene this week. Oregonians pad the ranks for team USA this year, check it out, it'll be a great way to celebrate the holiday t...

Round and round

Holy cow, I feel like an idiot for not promoting this sooner - Leon Redbone is playing TONIGHT at The Aladdin.
No one really knows his real name, or where he came from. His troubador-rolling blues honk has been compared to Dr. John, Tom Waits.
All I know is, my ma used to yell at my father for playing Leon's records when I was quite young, so of course that's all I wanted to listen to then...

Here's what you should do

It's raining and there's no more college football for you. NO MORE.

I've revamped the Harmon Kardon turntable and have been seeking out new copies of my favorite all time records. These ain't MP3 kids, this is the real deal and it's HEAVY as a motherlode.

So heavy you can't lift the needle cause it's sucked onto the black wax vortex vacuum...

Hold Steady - to rock

6:00 PM Tue, Nov 06, 2007 |
Rich Kurz

It's never too early in the week for a concert, though sometimes Monday feels that way. Minneapolis faves (now based in NYC) The Hold Steady hit the stage at the Crystal Ballroom last night, not letting a small crowd keep them down. Maybe it was just the fact that the previous night they played a "dry" college campus, but the band brought its legendary energy all night.

Plenty of other good shows coming up this week.... like Feis...

November 2, 2007

Seven years in the making, the movie "American Gangster" is a carefully crafted accomplishment from director Ridley Scott and co-producer Brian Grazer. The film is based on the true story of a 1970's Harlem crime lord whose exploits made him something of a cult figure.

"American Gangster" may not be for everyone, but fans of past gangster classics - as well as those who liked H...

Rock n Roll Weekend

12:10 PM Thu, Oct 18, 2007 |
Rich Kurz

Ever seem like concerts come in waves to P-town? If so, then get ready to get drenched this weekend. Friday night kicks off not one, not two, but three shows fighting for your buck - and your groove-time.

The big one kicks off over at the Memorial Coliseum when Interpol hits the Rose City in support of their new album, Our Live to Admire. The disc checked in at #4 on the ...
