February 2009 ArchivesGot a chance last night to check out the BIG Mississippi Studios pre-reopening party and see the space ahead of tonight's FREE extravaganza. The new room can hold between 150-200 people and a staircase-wraparound balcony showcases some pieces from the old studio - that once was a storefront church. You walk into the bar/lounge area with a couple picnic like tables, then you notic... (Don't forget the Portland Jazz Festival is still happening through this weekend)
Sat... Dig man - all over town for the next week it's the Portland Jazz Festival 2009 Bring yer V Day squeeze. I've recently come back into the scene, since playing as a kid and with an extended family of players with chops, but I credit local radio KMHD for re-broadening my love of music that spans just about every style imaginable. I'm going to write more about freaking Mudhoney playing Slabtown Saturday for the three-day Bender along with dozens of Portland garage favs. Pierced Arrows, Howie and the hot Knives, Thee Headliners, PCG ... on and on. Portland's garage gasp! You can find all the listing info at the link. Bands start about noonish and the thanks to mostly backlined equipment, go until bar close.... Not a ton of info yet, but I am informed the new Bridgetown beer store is now open. |
