Frozen roses

Donned the winter coat against the wet chill this morning, and it looks like there's absolutely no chance of sun for the Rose Fest Grand Floral Parade.

Seriously, if summer ever starts it better dang well last until Thanksgiving.

Very busy with all things festival this weekend, so when you're not mixing it up with the rose court, floats, sailors or carnies, check out these:

Doug Fir will at least sound like summer with this Sly and the Family Stone tribute: Dance to the Music and Excellent Gentlemen play.

And over at Duff's the legendary swamp master Dale Hawkins! you may know him as Ronnie's cousin and the guy who hit it big with his recording of Suzie Q.

An intimate venue for juke stomping rockabilly.

PLUS - classic early 70s jazz fusion masters Return to Forever play the Schnitz. It's that killer electric piano-driven sound with Chick Corea on keyboards, Al Di Meola on guitar, Stanley Clarke on bass and Lenny White on drums.

It is a sad day when Portland Mayor Tom Potter(the Mayor of the City of Roses) can not dress appropriately for the 'crowning' of the 2008 Rose Festival Queen. He looked totally out of place on the stage during the crowning and the presentation ceremony. He looked like he was going 'bird' hunting, instead of 'honoring' the 2008 Queen of the Portland Rose Festival. This was an insult to the event and to the citizens of Portland.
