Saturday night: Fistful of Cash is the eeriest Johnny Cash tribute band I've ever heard, as soon as they started their first song first time I heard em, people in the other barroom whipped their necks around thiking it was either a really clean sounding Cash CD playing, or some black-clad ghost had entered the building. That's at the Bitter End, with the punkabilly Blackout Radio

At the White Eagle a Tom Waits tribute night should be interesting. I think the piano is haunted there too.

Finally, MONDAY MONDAY MONDAY:

It works as well on a coffee table as a bar, since Minnesota writer Jim Walshwrote The Book on rock and roll's most undersung, but-perfectly brilliant sensations - The Replacements, who will always be remembered as The Greatest Band In The World Ever, DUH.

The author will be reading from 'All over but the shouting' in Portland at downtown Borders on Monday January 29, 7 p.m.
But the swinging party only moves down the line from there to Slabtown, where the PDX talent show will pay tribute to those sometimes-lovable Minnesota miscreants who Wore Plaid First, with heart sleeves soaked in blood from the blistering Rock.
Admission is a sliding donation scale for the bands, the likes of which you’ll be happy to see shamble into ragged glory, somehow.
