Turkey Day's just about here, but don't let all that tryptophan keep you tied to the couch. Plus, how likely is it that those out-of-town aunts and uncles will want to head out for a late night show? Tonight, in mere hours, one-time Northwest band (and now South Carolina residents) Band of Horses play what's at least there fourth show at the Crystal Ballroom in the past year. Except this... It's raining and there's no more college football for you. NO MORE. I've revamped the Harmon Kardon turntable and have been seeking out new copies of my favorite all time records. These ain't MP3 kids, this is the real deal and it's HEAVY as a motherlode. So heavy you can't lift the needle cause it's sucked onto the black wax vortex vacuum... So, the county 'youth' committee is proposing to the OLCC that minor-upper age teens be allowed in rock clubs. They say it's going to rain - good time to get into the club. Tonight I'd pick one of two things - Fernando at Dantes, OR Howie and the hot Knives-and the Buttfrenchers at Tonic. It's never too early in the week for a concert, though sometimes Monday feels that way. Minneapolis faves (now based in NYC) The Hold Steady hit the stage at the Crystal Ballroom last night, not letting a small crowd keep them down. Maybe it was just the fact that the previous night they played a "dry" college campus, but the band brought its legendary energy all night. Plenty of other good shows coming up this week.... like Feis... Reviewed by Ellen Kimball November 2, 2007 Seven years in the making, the movie "American Gangster" is a carefully crafted accomplishment from director Ridley Scott and co-producer Brian Grazer. The film is based on the true story of a 1970's Harlem crime lord whose exploits made him something of a cult figure. "American Gangster" may not be for everyone, but fans of past gangster classics - as well as those who liked H... Hey there rock 'n' roll fans - today you get your first shot at the world-renowned (ok, renowned at least among our rather large group of friends) concert calendar compliments of my buddy Kevin Sampson. See - attorneys DO have a life. All notes on the shows are his, but heartily endorsed by me. Enjoy - and go see a show. Quick version today kids.
