Stephanie Stricklen: February 2008 Archives((UPDATE: I've got the next week off.. See you all March 10th!)) Okay.. please please please check out the full version of a story I've been working on this Sunday at 7am ((7:20am specifically)). It's has extra material and is really a nice feature on these guys and Black Nature specifically. Here are the links I promised at the end of the short-version story that ran earlier this week. You MU... Yes, yes, yes, it's true!! Most E. coli is either a) potentially good for you or at the most b) harmless. There are hundreds of strains.. Let's give you the black sheep of the E. coli family first: O157:H7. This is the one that has killed people or made them horribly sick after eating contaminated meat that was not cooked to a high enough temperature. >> Continue reading: Now.. I'm going to give you a few links on that plastics story I worked on for noon this Monday. But, if this is an issue that troubles you, I encourage you to look into it on your own. Be aware that if you do a google search for phthalates, etc... you will get a number of biased websites that pop up immediately-- both for and against the use of these compounds. And sometimes it's hard to tell where the bias lays. What I can do is g... Yay, Friday. Yay, yay, yay. Okay. Let's give you the skinny on vitamin D and tanning beds and all that good jazz. First, Dr. Hahn says in the winter months she doesn't have a problem with using a tanning bed that has UVB rays.. IF YOU USE IT FOR LIKE 4 MINUTES. And there lies the rub. If you go to a tanning salon, my guess is you're going to get a tan and that is most definitely not what Dr. Hahn is suggesting. And she's n... ((eclipse stuff and online health info below....)) Hey.. worn out women (and men).. here is more on the sleep apnea story that is running tonite at 11pm. Yeah, I will be sound asleep myself when it airs so you get this early. http://www.webmd.com/sleep-disorders/tc/sleep-apnea-symptoms And here is anoth... Animal research is one of those tricky topics to cover. There are people who firmly believe all animal testing is inhumane, cruel, and largely unnecessary. There are others who believe most animal testing meets this criteria. And there is a majority of Americans who either don't have an opinion or believe it's 100% needed if we are to find a cure for the diseases that plague our society. This is not that debate. B... It's "Meh, Mondays".. and I've been out of the office shooting an upcoming story since this morning. So, no health stuff to post today. Instead, let me brighten your day with two things I really groove on: kids and animals. I've got some cute stuff, too. First, Blog Buddy Joe has the world's most adorable boy Zak. You could almost have a caption contest for this one: Hey.. normally on Valentine's day I go on and on about flowers (first I don't want them, then I do), chocolates (like just one or two.. I definitely don't need the whole box), and a bunch of other light-hearted fun stuff (red wine is good for your heart). But not today. This story is important, and if you have teens I'd like you to see it. Since I'm having a heckuva time finding the press release on-line anywhere.... Alrighty then... let's start with the worst chain restaurant foods that I talked about this in the 5am hour of our morning show... here's the link: Frankly, I'm shocked to learn about those cheese fries. I actually don't order that kind of stuff, so I found myself clicking on things like the salad, starter, and fish entree... ....so says this study we talked about in our morning and noon show on this Monday: http://www.latimes.com/features/health/la-sci-dietsoda11feb11,1,395760.story I wanted to give you the full writeup on it.. also, here is the information on the islet transplant for diabetes as it pertains to having the procedure done in the states... ...After doing this story that runs tonite (Thursday) at 5pm, I've decided I like the neti pot. Never used one, don't think I'll need to, BUT what a great simple idea that doesn't involve drugs or a lot of money. Speaking of money.. the naturopath I spoke to says skip the fancy add ons. Just salt and water and a neti pot is all you need. Here's more on this little nasal wonder courtesy of Oprah: Do you sleep enough?? I actually do, even on this crazy schedule. But, I sleep in two shifts (9pm to 3am-ish.. and 1pm to 4pm) so that I can hang out with my husband when he gets home from work. Honestly, it hasn't been too tough of a transition, although people who really know me were a bit surprised to hear how well I took to this schedule (I greatly value my sleep). Back to the matter at hand. I found this article which t... I'm telling you guys.. these Blazers are great guys. You might remember me going on and on about LaMarcus a while back and now I could go on and on about another player-- James Jones. He was at the Schoolhouse Supplies Celebrity Spelling Bee last night and I (again) was very impressed. He took AP history and someone told me he was an academic all-star. Funny, smart guy who was very nice. W... |
