Tastes like chicken & Curling
Here is that curling link I was telling you about at 5pm:
http://www.evergreencurling.org/
And here is one of my more favorite photos. It's of a menu at a pizza restaurant that tried to translate the menu items into english. Do you spot the problem?
Turns out "garden rocket" is arugula. And the pizza here is better than any pizza I've ever had.
QRT: Josh, yes.. I am definitely being careful over here. We got a safety briefing that talked about the dangers and as a result I now catch a cab at 6 in the morning instead of making the 25 minute walk by myself in the dark. It's expensive too (20 euro one way) but I am not about to get mugged carrying all my backpacks, computers etc. Torino is actually very safe, but the Olympics bring in all kinds of trouble as people come here just to look for easy targets.
Jeffrey: I have a cool story coming up on bobsled. I hope you catch it. It will most likely run the day bobsled competitions begin. I don't have my calendar in front of me.
Michael: Oh yeah, we will DEFINITELY do a pin trading story at some future point. I mean, you simply have to have them here.. it's just so odd if you really think about it. Your pin sounds cool.
Karen: What I wouldn't give to have the time to get out of town. As it is I "run and gun" all day and have a shockingly little amount of time to shoot stories (daily approximately from 10am to 2pm Italy time *including* travel which eats up a ton of time).
Kent: The Olympics assignment is one that everyone totally wants until they do it once. It is significantly harder than it looks. That's why stations send the same people every time. Institutional knowledge of how this works is so key. You should email Lisa Helderop lhelderop@kgw.com and ask her to blog about her thoughts. This is her first Olympics and there is so much to learn!
Walter: I know.. the berets are HUGE again this Olympics. The thing is I highly doubt I will even have a single day to go shopping while I'm here. And you should have seen the emails pour in for requests. I'd need a whole suitcase to stash everything. Please tell your wife I said "Hi".
Ron: Speaking of shopping requests I got a real kick out of yours and am thrilled that you picked something small!! But, alas... I don't think my boss would approve of me buying you a shot glass. ;-)
Renee: I would definitely come back for a vacation. Downtown Torino is gorgeous!! The outlying areas feel a little industrial, but I think the central part of the city is wonderful.
Keith: I am into halfpipe, anything with Bode, and curling. But all of it is so cool... really!! I love to see strong and talented women compete!! Go Team USA!!!
Dorsie: Thank you for the NICEST email. I have kept it on my blackberry so when I'm feeling rundown I can look at it and remind myself why I'm here. Thanks!!!
Bruce: You'll have to get in line if you want to work as a grip/photographer/etc at the Olympics. That and I have 12 people who want to fit into my suitcase.
Brandy: No.. I didn't get in to Opening Ceremony. And I SO can't afford a ticket!!! I wish I could! That's okay. NBC does a great job of covering it.
Rob: I am taking time off. 13 days to be exact. I'm headed to Florence, Rome, Venice and Paris. Having never been to Italy before I am very excited!!
Louie: It sounds like your business is located in a great part of town. I love NW Portland. As for the wine here.. I haven't had much of a chance to get out on the town. I have stopped for pizza and very quickly learned how to ask for a recommendation on the menu.
Jennifer: No, I totally don't mind people coming up to say hi. Although, if I look like I'm having a bad day maybe it's not the best time to tell me what you think about my hair/appearance/etc.. haha!! You know, I had a woman once tell me I looked skinnier in person than I did on TV. No matter which way you slice it... it's a slam. :-)
Miss Lynne!!!!! I miss you and loved getting your email. Sorry I don't have time for a proper response. We have to catch up when I get back!!
To my husband: I miss you. Tomorrow is Valentine's day and I wish we were together. I love you. Pets to Milo for me.
