I'm returning to work in...

November.

I'm coming back to work in November.

I just had my meeting with my bosses at KGW and it went better than I hoped. They're very supportive of me taking my full leave, which is awesome. In fact, it works great for them, too, which is always an added bonus. I'm not putting anyone out. Well, besides poor Joe Donlon (who has been a rockin' Live @ 7 host, in my opinion).

As for the duration of my leave... in my line of work there is often an unspoken pressure to get back on the air as quickly as possible. You don't want people to forget about you. Or worse; you don't want your bosses to realize they're getting along just fine without you. But, that's the great thing about my station. I'm very fortunate that I don't have that kind of pressure.

And truth be told, I'm not ready to come back to work, either. As baby Elle nears her 12th week of life, I realize how much I enjoy spending my day with her. I enjoy the mommy & me movies. I love my moms' group. I like just being with her. I'm sure every woman who had a child and went back to work has felt this way; not ready for that transition. And I'm sure it won't be any easier when baby Elle is almost 6 months old as opposed to now. But, I'm not going to think about that. Not yet, anyway.

For now, I'll savor these next few weeks with this little baby of mine.

Awwww.. I miss you on Live @ 7 though! But I am very happy for you that you get to stay home and spend all of this wonderful time with the baby :) As I dropped the dog off at the Doggie Hotel this morning and teared up, I thought "how am I EVER going to leave my baby at the sitter next spring?!?" so I totally know how you feel! Hopefully you'll be ready for action on the news in November :)

Cute pix Steph! I mean really cute! It will be nice to see you back on the air. I hear you about the "not ready to go back thing" though. That's why there's a 'conventional wisdom' among the people I talked to when Max was a baby that recommended to delay taking significant time off until the kid is a little older so you can fully enjoy this time. That advice is for Dads only, obviously. Max, my son, will be 9 this November. Seems like just yesterday that he was a baby, but also seems a lifetime ago. Enjoy these days.

No one can forget you Steph! And although we look forward to your return, we are happy that you can spend precious time with baby Elle. She is a doll!

Say, did you apply for Baby Elle's AFTRA card yet? I wouldn't worry about Live @ 7 viewers forgetting about you but umm... #Elle may be doin' some upstaging of mommy. :)

As a mom who has 5 kids from 23 to 2 (same crazy husband) I applaud you for savoring these first few months, you will never get them back and it is simply shocking how fast little ones will grow up. Enjoy your time with your darling daughter! Kim

I too am enjoying some quality time at home with a newborn little boy. I have two other teenage sons at home, so we are basically starting over. This is my last chance to be able to stay home like this but my time too is running out as I head back to the office Oct 1st. My third son was born May 25th. It will be a hard day heading back to the office as I have so enjoyed spending this time off. I got to spend all of summer vacation with my three boys. I also had a couple extra weeks before he was born as I was on bedrest. That's not as fun! =) Enjoy the rest of your time off and I look forward to seeing you on the tube again soon! Your daughter is darling!

Your little baby is so sweet! She looks so happy and healthy. Don't worry, you are not forgotten! Missed, yes. Forgotten? No way!

Wonder if you will find like I did that it was too precious to leave the little one (even after leave) and not see all the fun things, development, etc. He is awesome ! And our most important job in life! Good luck in your motherhood and beyond.

I love the pics. Juggling work and motherhood is stressful and emotional, no matter what the child's age. We Moms all have these feelings. Why don't you carry Baby Elle in a backpack on the Live @ 7 set? She'll be a great prop and you'll make history!

Steph- I am so happy you are coming back, I have been waiting! I last emailed you when you were in labor. I know well what you are feeling right now. I have two grandsons, age 2 and 5, and remember how my daughter felt when returning to work, she has a demanding schedule and oftentimes because of the nature of her job, many additional hours and days are added in. Her husbands job keeps him out of town much of the time. I moved to the Couv from Southern California when my first grandson was 7 mos old to help out (and to enjoy being with him). My daughter has a most wonderful, wonderful private day care that both of the boys have gone to since infants. She is in the Lakeshore Felida area of Vancouver. My daughter actually talked to you in the deli section of _Safeway about two years ago(said she mentioned to you that her grandfather had worked for NBC in NY for his whole career). I worked there also in the news dept just out of college and loved it. Steph, I await your return to my evening.st94ts

Steph-I am so glad that you are getting to spend all this extra time with your daughter. She is so beautiful by the way. But my selfish side wants you to hurry back. You are just the human side of KGW news. I want to thank you again for your interest in my daughters little boutique downtown Vancouver, however the economy got the best of her and she will be closing her doors next week. Last chance to go grab so cute baby things for Ella. lol Thanks for the great work that you do. See ya soon.
