Well, that went well.

I was totally jazzed to see Krist Novoselic (after 20 years had passed since I first remembered meeting him pre-Nirvava's explosion onto the music scene). Wait, I should probably backup and tell you he was the bassist for Nirvana, in case you didn't know. The station found out that he now lives in rural Southwest Washington and that he was headed to the inauguration which gave us a great opportunity to ask him to chat with us.

That fireplace was smokin' hot by the way. He had to be feelin' it on the back of his head by the time the interview was over.

The backstory is this: 20 years ago many of my friends were involved with local music in my hometown. My ex-boyfriend and I were still close friends and as a bass player he was pretty wired in the music scene. We spent a lot of time hanging out at a place we nicknamed the Funk house-- because the band that lived there had a funk edge to it. That's where I met Krist. Of course, we weren't, like, phone buddies or anything like that.. but he stuck out in my mind for two reasons.

#1) He's 7 feet tall. Okay, he's not exactly 7 feet.. but he is much taller than most people and is memorable as a result.

#2) The following year his band... Nirvana... took off and all of us just kind of sat around with our jaws dropped marvelling at the coolness of it all. It was like someone walked up to all the little bands that moved in that same circle and stabbed them in the heart with a huge syringe full of adrenaline. All music. All the time.

Krist remembers that house. He told me the guys in the band that lived there came to see Nirvana play a show in San Diego. I can only imagine how awesome that must have been for them.

To talk to Krist today, I can't help but feel impressed at how passionate and informed he is about local politics. This is a guy that could have easily lived off royalties and coasted on the party train. But he comes across as having such a level-headed approach to what's important in life.. it was a treat to sit down with him. If he's willing, we'll have him back on the show at some point. He also has an album coming out in May. Oh yeah, and he blogs (cool points in my book)! I may be old fashion but I think that bicycles riders should follow the same rules as cars have to and that tickets should be written if they do not. They want us as car drivers to share the road with them and I have no problem with that but then they want special rules. NO! I ride a motor cycle and I follow the same rules as cars and when I ride my bicycle and peddle I still follow the same rules. That is the way I was taught in school that you followed the same rules and that is the way it should be as far as I am concerned.
