~ I AM LARS LARSON ~

At least that's what some of you thought after seeing him on the 7pm show last night. You told me that I should keep my GOP-loving views to myself and stop promoting hate.

Nice.

I am also un-American (my personal favorite), super-conservative, and a card-carrying member of the right-wing.

Even better.

I'd be lying if I told you that I wasn't dissappointed in those of you made those assumptions about me, based on the choice of an interview subject that we, as a team, decided on at KGW. But, I know you are also in the minority. Most people get it. Most people know I am not the carbon copy of the people we choose to interview. Most people are also open to hearing dissenting views, even if only to scoff at how much they disagree.

To prefer the silence of uniform agreement scares me. It really does.

Lars will be back as a guest. And so will the democrats. And so will the moderates. And the academics. And anyone who is a good fit to provide commentary on the questions we want to ask.

If you check kgw.com/thesquare you can see who will be on and send in your questions in advance. I hope you'll do that the next time you see Lars as a guest.

Tonite we're having an economist on the show.. I guess that means some of you will assume I'm a whiz with money?

Stephanie -
Don't let those "jokers" get to you...I think the show was great!!! It was teriffic to see you on the air and you did a fantastic job. First show, off to a good start; looking forward to many more. I'm also NOT a Lars Larsen fan, but like you, choose to hear other "views" and am not frightened by other points of view.

PS - Love your new puppy-dog! I think "Harley" fits. Congrats on the new "baby".

Stephanie,
I wanted to leave you a message last night about Lars Larson. I don't mind dissenting points of view, but I thought you could have challenged him on his ultra-conservative mantra of Conservatives are pro-religion, pro-guns, pro-life, pro-family, pro-keeping your hard earned cash, so why didn't the hispanic voters turn to the Republican party? First he implied and often states on his radio blabber that Democrats are the opposite, wrong! Democrats are not anti his pro views, they are pro choice, which makes him anti-choice by his skreed. Democrats and Liberals believe you are free to make a choice and are responsible for the consequences. We are not pro-death or pro-abortion, but we believe it is the right of every American to make a choice and then live with the consequences. Wage earners would like to keep their salaries and like Teddy Roosevelt or Adam Smith have those that can afford to pay more do so.
Perhaps it is not the idea of the show to be controversial and I can appreciate that and I do enjoy this new half hour very much. Much success to you and the show.

Keep up the great work on this show. I believe that showing both points of views is the best thing that could happen on KGW. There are many well-respected people from both sides that you can have on that will make this program more interesting. Lars was a great choice, he is very liberal and I'm sure the right-wing people hated it. All this show is supposed to do is show both sides and let the viewers pick their own side. Keep it up!

Is this really a HEALTH BLOG??? Or is it a SELF INTEREST BLOG?

I think, personally, the sticking point is: "anyone who is a good fit to provide commentary on the questions we want to ask". It's a sticking point because generally speaking Lars is not a good fit to provide commentary on anything, regardless of the political spectrum involved.

I indeed would tend to hope that "Most people are also open to hearing dissenting views", but I'd also tend to hope that most people, and most reporters, would want dissenting views that come from rational argument, not simply from hot-headed ideological rhetoric.

It's not his politics that make Lars NOT "a good fit", it's his lack of living in the reality-based community. And the job of journalism SHOULD BE to reinforce a public forum based in reality.
