February 2006 ArchivesWow. I just realized this is my last blog. I managed to get tomorrow (Saturday) off and then I work nights Sunday for the closing ceremony. I have a quick turnaround and a live shot for Monday morning and then we begin the process of tearing down the workspace and packing up everything. It's an odd feeling to know you are almost done, really. I've been down this road before. By my math I've done about 100 live shots, 80 r... How's this for random?? When the really nice gals come to clean my room.. they have zero reservations about doing it while I'm inside trying to get ready. It cracks me up so much I don't even care. I just let them do thier thing all around me. Today they changed the sheets on the bed while all my stuff was still on it. The rooms are small too, so it can get tight. 90% of the time I am not in my room when they clean so it's not a... Likening my voice to the sound of a goose getting slowly run over by farm equipment was probably not the most delicate way to describe it on the radio this morning (MIX 107.5) but I swear that's how it sounds to me... especially when I first wake up. That said, things are lookin' up. As the day went on and my voice warmed up various people (like Brenda Braxton, or the folks over at KINK) described it as "sultry". I think I sound like... There is no graceful way to put this: I sound like an idiot when I order a coffee here. The culture is so different from America. My favorite coffee drink in Italy is a cappucino, but I was just reading on-line that you will raise eyebrows if you order one in the afternoon. It's a drink intended for the morning only. I asked one of our drivers to teach me how to say "I'm sorry, I'm a tourist" so they get it when it's 4pm and I'm cr... Hey!! Guess what?! I have FINALLY solved the photo problems I was having.. and Photojournalist Rod Stevens gets to post his missing blog. Yay!! It's funny because I basically send my blog to Portland and then Portland sends it back to Italy to this company that then posts them in the Ozone area (www.nbcolympics.com). Well, I made direct contact with the company here and it graciously agreed to expedite fixing the problems. If you'r... Here is that curling link I was telling you about at 5pm: http://www.evergreencurling.org/ And here is one of my more favorite photos. It's of a menu at a pizza restaurant that tried to translate the menu items into english. Do you spot the problem? Rod's mom DID write to me (see previous blog) but what I really want her to see is the photo of her son as it was originally taken... high atop Torino's tallest building the Mole Antonelliana. And here is a picture of Rod's pants. Yeah, you read that correctly.
Here is a photo of one of the driver's. Mariangela lives in the country and commutes into town. She wanted the job to practice her English. I taught her how to say "rock star parking" which is when you get to park RIGHT next to where you need to shoot. She has a wealth of knowledge about Torino. We are in downtown which is lit up like a Christmas tree with cool lights strung between buildings. They all have a theme. Bet you can guess th... So, I have resolved the issue with the photographs that I mentioned on the news yesterday. No one told me I could only post two per blog (important fact). BUT.. I can still post as many as I want..... just have to spread them out. Since I am definitely not a fan of how the cropped photos turned out: I'm reposting. This will look the same for those of you who check out my blog by clicking on the health link. The 'new and improved' p... Hello!!! Ciao!! It's Saturday morning my time and I've just wrapped up my live shot for the Friday midnite newscast on the Opening Ceremony for everyone back home in Portland. I snagged about 3 hours of sleep last night and honestly I feel like my head is full of sand. After I finish this blog entry I will work on a story I'm writing and then try to set stuff up for the following week ((where we have some holes in our schedule... After 24 hours of travel.. no sleep and some technical difficulties at the NBC workspace.. things are finally coming together. I have a ton to tell you about, but I'm swamped and need a moment to get myself pulled together. Also, I need to check with our web guru to find out about the NBC Olympic Blog which will turn up in a different place. I actually wish I could blog here (I can't) because I have control over when I post. Doing it the o... |
