Really quick...

Stephanie Stricklen

In case you're wondering where I am.. I'm on vacation. I took a few days off prior to my departure to Italy to spend some quality time with my husband. I have some really great emails to answer here once I carve out a little time. In the meantime, I so wish I had a hot tub right now to soak my sore muscles. We spent a night at Timberline and went skiing (which I don't know how to do). If you ever go and require a lesson like me, ask for A...

You can't make this stuff up, folks

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) -- Police say a robbery suspect held up a
diner on Monday, went back for seconds on Wednesday and wound up
shooting himself in the foot.

Police say they arrested Clayton Everett Teman, 23, who was
hospitalized. A bullet had gone through his foot.

Springfield police Detective Tom Rappe said the robber
encountered the same clerk in both stickups, and told her the

Joe, Mark, Ryan.. this one is for you

For Joe: I don't know if Nike tried unsuccessfully in the past to get the rights it secured this time around to outfit American athletes on the podium. I do know Nike has been part of the Olympics for a while.. but this is definitely a higher-profile avenue (retail sales of Nike stuff with the Olympic rings on it that you and I can buy).

You also asked about reporters who use ethnic sounding last names that are fake and are not...

The best of times, the worst of times

I'll spare you most (but not all) of the details.. but today was both completely awesome and completely lame. The day started out wonderfully, as I shot 3, possibly 4 stories that will air over in Italy during the Olympics. I can't tell you more yet, but I had a blast doing them.

Then I got back to the station and was so completely bogged down with work.. special reports for February that I MUST get done before I leave.. multi-shoot ...

The flu sucks.

4:16 PM Mon, Jan 16, 2006 |
Stephanie Stricklen

Typically, when people say they have the flu.. they don't.

The flu will often knock you flat on your back, making you tremendously sick in a way that you are not likely to forget anytime soon.

I haven't had the flu for about 10 years now and I intend to keep it that way by getting my annual flu shot.

I'll never forget getting the flu, either. I had just gotten a job as a waitress to help pay for college. The day I w...

Rain, rain.. go away

Stephanie Stricklen

Okay.. go ahead. Lay it on me. What do you think about the rain? I have mixed emotions. I hate missing my morning and weekend runs because it's just so wet outside. I hate that my pants fit a little tighter because of it. My dog hates it because he doesn't like getting his feet wet and misses his walks. But, I love the way it looks, sounds and smells. In terms of our coverage.. well, the rain dominates. I get it. The pi...

Boxer Babies

After giving me her guesses (from the previous post) I asked Kirsten if she'd be interested in sending me a picture of her two Boxers, which she did. Thanks, Kirsten!! Tell me they aren't the cutest pair?!! The big one is Baxter and the little puppy is Roxy. She also told me about this Boxer Play Day.. here's an excerpt:

It's the second Sunday of every month at noon at North Clackamas Park in Milwaukie. It'...

Hey, Jennifer!

Stephanie Stricklen

How odd is it that I'm happy I got an email from Jennifer asking me to post those dog pictures I promised?

I guess what makes me happy is that you're reading this and care enough to comment. I've gotten story ideas (Michael, etc.), feedback (Hi, Roger.. yeah, "efforting" is industry lingo), hairstyle suggestions (Ryan.. I haven't forgotten about you). I've found a few new blogs I look over when I have a second (Anita and Joe). One...

Were you up at 5am?

10:20 AM Fri, Jan 06, 2006 |
Stephanie Stricklen

I was.

I anchored the morning show this morning, so I actually got up at 2:45am. But, if you saw the top of the 5am newscast you may have heard that loud thud right off the top of the show. It was Brenda's wireless microphone taking a tumble to the ground. Those things weigh about a pound and are clipped on to us with these rinky-dinky clips that feel about as secure as a paperclip.

Here's a pic.

Knock, knock.. who's there?

So there I am sitting in the live truck putting together my second live hit for the noon show and the door to the truck opens......... and standing there is one surprised looking Mike Donahue (from one of the "other" stations).

"Uh, wrong truck.." he laughs as he closes the door and walks away to the very similar looking live truck parked (basically) right next to us.

These things happen, and it's always nice to see some...
