Eat Local, Go Green

I was surfing MSN the other night and stumbled upon an article that talked about eating local to 'go green.'

In North America fruits and vegetables travel an average of 1,500 miles before reaching your dinner table. And, all those miles mean lots...and lots...of carbon dioxide emissions as trucks and trains bring that food from where it's grown to your home. And, most would agree that more CO2 in our atmosphere isn't necessarily the best thing in the world. That's not all, though. Food that travels that far and that long can tend to lose flavor and nutrients.

A solution suggested by this MSN article I read was to buy your food locally. Places like New Seasons Market pride themselves on being 'home grown' - buying and selling food grown right here in the Northwest. Another great place to go - farmers markets. Not only can you get great, locally grown food...but you can have some fun, too. And with all this sunshine, they're a great excuse to get outside. For more information, check out the Oregon Farmers' Markets Association by clicking this link.
