In honor of the Cinco de Mayo celebration, I thought it would be appropriate to tap into the minds of our viewers again, to find out where the best Mexican food in town can be found.

Perhaps you prefer a sit-down dining experience that starts with some chips and guacamole.  Maybe you follow that up with a full entree of enchiladas, beans, and rice.  You cap off the meal with some sweet, delicious flan.  Of course, you'll need a couple of margaritas along the way to wash it all down.

Then again, maybe your favorite Mexican meal is simply a couple of tacos to go, packed with chicken or shredded beef, from the taco stand a couple of blocks from where you work.

As for me, I'm drawn to the one-of-kind asparagus tamales courtesy of the gang from Canby Asparagus Farm, who are also now the proud owners of Casa de Tamales at 10605 SE Main Street in Milwaukie.

Let's get back to you though.  What is your choice for best Mexican restaurant in the Portland area?  Whether it's somewhere along the Oregon Coast, or hidden away in the Portland suburbs, or right in the heart of the city itself... I want to hear from you!!!

So please click on the comments link below, and post your nomination for "Best Mexican Restaurant in the Portland area" now!!!!!

Having lived in Mexico, the most authentic Mexican restaurant we've found so far is "La Isla Bonita" in Tualatin. The Tacos al Pastor are the best and the staff is very friendly. We go almost weekly.

The best place to eat Mexican food a blind man could drive to.......... It has to be Lupes Escape in Aloha....... I have been eating there for 12 years since moving here, and I drive from McMinnville to eat there..... They are the greatest

Drew,

My wife and I go out for Mexican food on a regular basis, and our favorite restaurant is Los Dos Amigos in Salem. I give it 5 out of 5 stars! Best chimichanga's I've ever had, and a friendly environment.

Good Morning Drew..La Carreta Mexican Restaurant on Mcloughlin Blvd, Portland, has The Best fajitas with portions to fill up a hungry man for a very reasonable price.

Casa de Tamales is also my favorite. The asparagus and shrimp the other day were the best. Love their quesadillas too.

I like the cheerful decor and the fact that they use real dishes (not plastic and styrofoam) and pack your leftovers in biodegradable boxes.

Hands Down... The best Mexican restaurant in the area has to be La Costita. There are three that I know of, one on Barbour on the West side of town & one on 172nd in South East, but the best of the best is at 25627 SE Stark in Troutdale. They have a great happy hour menu, the friendliest staff, fast service & did I mention the best crab enchiladas this side of Cabo San Lucas ! OH... and the margaritas, well to start with they have a selection of over 20 sipping tequilas to choose from & their large "Cadillac Margarita".... I dare you to try to finish one without help !!!

GOOD EATS

Drew: The best Mexican cuisine is right there in downtown Milwaukie! Casa de Tamales makes healthy fresh-Mex that's the absolute best around.
I'm there at least once a week!

Thanks,
Marven

Hey Drew!
The best Mexican place in the "couv" is Cactus Ya Ya! Their salsa is the best. When we have taco night at home, we always pick up a To Go container - but it barely makes it home! lol They have one of the best happy hours as well. Located on Mill Plain and close to 164th Ave.
Thanks and have a great day!

This is all great info, I might go to one of these restaurants tonight, but I wonder how the Casa de Tamales owner feels about you sitting there in his business talking about OTHER Mexican restaurants!!! I hope you tip him well! :)

My favorite Mexican restaurant is La Calaca Comelona near 23rd and Belmont. The dishes served there have their roots in indigenous foods prepared in Mexico. It is delicious!
