Best Breakfast Spot in Town Blog

Millo%27s%20City%20Cafe

I've been saying for years, and continue to believe, that the best breakfast spot in town is Milo's City Cafe, located in Northeast Portland on NE Broadway in the middle of the block between 13th & 14th.
I was initially introduced to Milo's about 6 years ago. My first visit also resulted in my first eggs benedict experience. Why it took me so long to try this popular breakfast dish, I don't know. Now I've been spoiled for life. I can't order eggs benedict anywhere else, because nowhere else do they make them quite as good as Milo's.
Not to mention, Milo's has the ultimate benedict variation... the Crab Cake Benedict!!! It is, quite simply, the nicest thing you can do for your sense of taste during your first meal of the day.
I have also been fortunate to meet the owner of Milo's, Loren Skogland, and have worked with him on a couple of early morning segments over the years. Loren is as genuinely kind as his menu is genuinely delicious. I feel fortunate to have gotten to know him, and to have been introduced to his restaurant.

So the question remains, where do you think the best breakfast spot in town is? And by "town", I'm not just talking about Portland. I'm talking about our entire viewing area... Vancouver, Salem, the Coast, Eastern Oregon, Bend, Washington County, Yamill County, Clackamas, Sherwood, St. Helens... wherever it is that you love to eat breakfast, I want to hear about it.

So please click on the comments link below, and post your nomination for "Best Breakfast Spot in Town" now!!!!!

We like a place in Vancouver and in Battle Ground called Fatty Patty's. Nothing says breakfast like platters of slop and a full trough! Oink! Oink!

Have you been to Bertie Lou's on SE 17th in Sellwood? They have unique breakfasts and a very "Portland" atmosphere with a very cozy dining room. You should try it out.

The BEST breakfast place in Portland is Francis on Alberta and 25th. It's somewhat new, but the menu has plenty of options for vegetarians, vegans and even caters to meat-eaters too! There are muffins while you wait to be seated and lovely window seats for many. Try the strawberry jam on your fresh baked biscuts, yummy!

Suzi said:

Oh Drew! The best is Fat Albert's in Sellwood. Where the motto is: "A waist is a terrible thing to mind!"

My favorite meal just happens to be breakfast, so whenever the opportunity arises, I eat out. Of all the breakfasts I have eaten, and of all of the restaurants I have eaten them in, the best place..still... is The Skyline Restaurant in Sweet Home, Oregon. They have incredible 3 egg omelets(my husband's favorite is the Prime, Mushroom, and Swiss.. also known as the PMS)

Ramie J said:

McCrae's in Gresham is the best breakfast spot in town. They have the best biscuit and gravy platter and the portions of food you get are amazing. They also have the omlets made with 18 eggs. Its a great place for breakfast.

Ray Hartlerode said:

I agree with you that Milo's is the very best in Pdx, however a couple of other greats are Francis Xavier's at 182nd and San Rafael and McCrae's on Powell in Gresham. Francis Xavier's is great high quality food at a fair price and McCraes has great chicken fried steak and eggs and large omelettes. Not the 18 eggs like Fatty Patty's but a more sensible 12 eggs. We always share when we go there.

There are a lot of great places, but my vote is Helser's on Alberta St. Homemade crumpets, great benedicts, and great egg dishes. If you get there before 8:30 they have a list of five dishes that are under $3.50. Excellent food, great prices...

Sympatico in downtown Gresham has a great breakfast. It feels like a european cafe. The food is awesome. The potatoes are amazing. Even the fruit cup, which seems to be an afterthought at most restaurants, is always great. And on top of all that, the people are among the friendliest you'll find.

The Gateway Breakfast House. If it has "breakfast" in the name of the place, it's gotta be good. Old fashioned food and lots of it. They are only open for breakfast. How much better can you get?

Elizabeth Rees Morgan said:

To me the best places are "The Gateway Breakfast House" on SE Halsey which serves delicious meals, and "The Kettle Inn" on SE Division and 176th.

For many years in my hometown of Longview WA we have enjoyed Stuffy's Restaurant. Their unique menu includes their infamous "Stuff." Like the John Candy movie "The Great Outdoors"if you can eat a giant plate of "Stuff" you get your picture on the great wall of stuff and a free hat or t-shirt! The atmosphere is like the show "Cheers" where everybody knows your name and the servers wear poodle skirts. Homecooking and great people has made this restaurant thrive in our hometown. The people of Longvie, WA and Stuffys would love to invite you, Drew Carney to breakfast!

Hi Drew, I am from a tiny town in WA called Vader. The best place and the ONLY place to get breakfast up here is a little place called the Little Crane Cafe.We are a registered ghost town, everyone really does know each other. Great history and even greater food! If you are ever up this way, treat yourself and stop in!

The Bijou! I second it!

Best location for a romantic dinner is the Condon Hotel in the little town of Condon, just east and south of The Dalles. The Chef prepares outstanding menus for any meal... breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Or perhaps a romantic weekend in the Hotel which has been totally redone and is luxurious. The town is charmingly original.

Gary said:

Burts in dallas is a great spot for breakfast it has a rustic feel with local flavor. You see both the young and old alike there and regulars pull their coffee mug from the wall with their name on it. and the food is great.

Anne Stephens said:

The Crescent Cafe in Mcminnville the best breakdast there is. The OJ is to die for. I can never drink a another glass of OJ again now, except for there's. Micahel is the perfect host. He is always smiling plus funny at times. It is small tho but nice. This will be our regular place now to eat or just have a glass of OJ or a cup of coffee. The food is the best around. My husband and I said the crescent cafe is one of the better places around. We have only found one other place besides this place, it is no longer operating. The music they play are all types depends on the mood I guess. I love the music there.
