Alright... it's been two weeks since I started back on the air, and two weeks since I last wrote a blog entry...
There's a formula here... fewer hours of sleep = less time blogging.
I think I have some good material to get things going again though... angry, hate-filled blog comments.

Here's the deal... I've posted comments from everyone who has entered one to this point. The only time I haven't posted a comment in its entirety, is when a viewer makes "negative" comments about someone other than myself. I don't want this space to be a place to bash other people...

Me... I'm an open target.
Gratefully, the response to my return to local morning TV has been overwhelmingly positive to this point, both on this blog and in the e-mails I have received directly.
BUT... I know reading nothing but glowing praise can get old, SO... just in case you missed them, and in an effort to spice things up... here again are the two (and only two) NEGATIVE comments posted on the blog thus far:

1) Name: Diana

You seem to have a lot of friends posting here. I am not one of them. You are not funny, not cute and not welcome when I want news in the morning not any naked part of you showing. You come off as obnoxious and I can't believe KGW has stooped so low as to let you have regular airtime. Now I turn to Channel 6 when your face appears on my screen. Too much of you and I'll switch for good.
Not a fan,
Diana

Sorry to disagree with others but I find your segments annoying. they are just too over the top for early morning TV. Calm down. You're not that funny.

How's that for constructive criticism? Man, Diana, you're on fire, baby!!

Now... it's time for more comments... Let's hear what you think.

Those two hit the nail on the head. I find it painful to watch you try to be clever. Please bring back Jane Smith! I miss her light hearted, natural and witty reporting.

I would have to disagree.I find your segments very entertaining to watch while i sit and starighten my hair every morning!

Well, someone peed in their cheerios!

You are the one reason that I actually watch the news in the morning now. To start your day with all the negativity (shootings, drug arrests, etc) starts to be a real downer when you watch it every day.

I was starting to just get my content off the Internet where I can pick and choose what I want to see.

But I actually do watch the morning news now just to catch your segments...they are very optimistic and uplifting.

Keep up the good work Drew! (Dave, Brenda and Stephanie rock too!)

I'm so happy to see you here you are a breath of fresh air.I watched you channel 12 as was sad when you left. Glad to see you back.Keep laughing....

Well Drew, you already know that I like you and I'm glad to see you dealing with the 'mean spirited' people with your regular good humor. You are not 'over the top', you are enthusiastic and that helps the businesses you are promoting. But Drew, I must say one thing: GREEN HAIR? C'mon, you could have gone for soft highlights or something but GREEN? Just kidding of course, you can pull it off. Ignore the 'nasties', do your bit, and make that morning show the much more interesting one it has become lately! Even if I do miss it and have to see it on the web! So get some sleep, have some fun, and just get out there for those local businesses, I bet they are really grateful to have a segment with you. TTYL

I guess a thank you is in order for you Drew. I now have more time in the morning. I find your segments annoying. From my perspective they seem frenetic and disjointed. At any rate I'm no longer turning on the TV in the morning.

I think that there are to many people in the world who see the glass half empty....I'm sure everyone in the world has something that is anoying to someone else, that is what makes us all an idividual. Maybe review those rules from kindergarten...if you have anything nice to say, don't say anything.... If it would hurt your feelings if was said to you or about you...maybe it shouldn't be said...
Drew you make me smile, and that is an important job , and as you can see....a difficult job for some people accept.

Hi Drew,

I was wondering where you went when you left the other station. My husband and I enjoyed your segments. I do agree with one of your critics about showing too much skin, but we know you only do it for the sake of a story.

I'm glad you're not gone for good, we don't really like the new guy on the other station, but we aren't ready to leave the other station due to their local flair.

Good luck, and maybe we'll see you on the weekends, because we do watch channel 8 on the weekend.

I must agree with Diana--You annoy me AND Waste my time!

However, since you seem to have some fans (although the rationale escapes me), how about a compromise: TONE IT DOWN SOME!!! Report MORE and Participate LESS in whatever is going on in your segments.

Do you have to YELL so much so early in the morning?

I don't see why news programs have to have these kind of segments anyway - half the time, it's just shilling for advertisers.

Brandy said:

You are so fun to watch and what makes it even better is to watch the rest of the channel 8 gang watch and laugh too. I think you need to be on the air a little longer in the morning.
Thanks for the laughs

Drew,

I just want to say that everyone who has a negative comment to say has never lived in Louisiana where the news is as slow & boring as mollasses. I moved to Oregon for 2 1/2 years (no I am not a Katrina reject)and watched you on channel 12 until you left. I was so let down then a friend of mine told me you were going to channel 8. I was so happy and then due to family problems I had to move back to Louisiana. Now I watch you on the internet. You are just great. I wish you were here in the south we would love to have a breath of fresh air and a lot of laughs. For channel 12 you goofed when Drew left... Thanks for the laughs

Morning Drew!

I have to say I kind of enjoy your segments in the morning. Sometimes you are a bit loud and excited...but that is nice to see, compared to the all the (expletive) news that is on TV every day. Who wants to wake up and hear about murders, and deaths and shootings all the time? Your segments are fun and a great welcome to the this mean and unforgiving world we live in. Thanks for being FUN to watch!

Hi, I was a loyal 12 viewer because of you and the rest of the gang.. there seemed to be a great chemistry with you all.. then we moved away to volunteer in a Haitian refugee village for a few months.. came back and you were GONE... the show lost a lot...(edited content). So now I go to bed earlier to be able to get up to see the show on 8.. I just wish that 8 did a show until 8 or 9am.. the today show is boring.. we like local in our family! Welcome back and we are glad we found you again :)

I enjoy watching you but there are some things that really bug me. You are always saying "i don't have much time" which wastes time. And not to mention, we don't really care. Just wrap it up smoothly.

You really don't get much time....you start explaining something and you have to wrap it up. It would be nice to have longer segments. They don't need to keeps replaying the same stories over....

Keri Carter said:

Drew i want to thank you for doing your job. Its that simple. I don't think a lot of the "negative" viewers out there understand that its a heck of a lot easier to read from cue cards then it is to wake up flippin early every morning and become this completely enthusiastic and vibrant individual (which you are) i love that you love your job and it shows! you don't need to change a thing!

Hi Drew,
I wouldn't listed too closely to any of the meanie-pants kids. Constructive criticism is good, but the rest is just rude. Some mean people feel powerful being able to spew their bitterness in a "faceless" opportunity such as this. The majority of the posts show that Portland loves what you are doing. Keep it up!

Angela said:

Drew, keep doing what you are doing. The other channel lost a good thing when they lost you. I also am like you, outgoing and personable. Who likes to watch some stuffy person, who seems not to be connected to the viewer. Everytime my husband and I see you, you ALWAYS bring a smile to our faces. You're not afraid to get down and dirty. That's cool. Best luck with your babies. Angela and Dewey

You're great Drew but I think you should try watching TODAY once or twice so you can see how to do a segment without YELLING at us in the morning when we just got up. It gets old. Otherwise you're excellent a being the "morning DJ" of KGW's morning show.

Rochelle Ashby said:

Hey Drew- A couple years back you did a segment at my daughter's high school. She was a morning news anchor at Century High School in Hillsboro. Your energy and interest in the kids there really encouraged them. You invited my daughter (with me as chaperone) to shadow you on another story. From my perspective, i watched you treat people with respect and kindness. We are happy to have found you again. Critics of you and your high energy would whistle a different tune if they took the time to see you a bit deeper. Thanks again for being a positive and fun person to watch. My family thinks of you fondly. Keep it up!!!

Drew we loved it when u where over at 12 . . .how they failed to hold on to you is beyond me.
You do a great show and treat the public with great respect when you are on site. If you even what to do a vet clinic spot for channel 8 or need a vet news source give us a call.

Drew, I do enjoy your segments and hope the negative individuals get a life, I bet they couldn't do any better. Keep up the great job! I do have one question though.... how do you come up with your stories? I'm amazed at the stories you cover and wonder how you find them.
