Blazers Half Game Out of 4th Playoff spot

11:02 PM Sat, Feb 28, 2009 |
Joe Becker

By Joe Becker

The Houston Rockets lost at Chicago 105-102 and that helps the Blazers.    If the Blazers can Beat San Antonio Sunday at the Rose Garden the Blazers will pull even with Houston for the fourth playoff spot in the West.

I'm not like a lot of people that feel the Blazers had to win at Houston or San Antonio this past week.  Let's face facts, the good teams usually win at home, no matter, who they ar...

Spurred Yet Again!

Alright, this was a game that Portland should have won.   Show a little fight on the road already!   This is as close to crunch time as it will get fellas!   The Blazers lost for the 11th straight time in San Antonio tonight, 99-84.   Mind you, the Spurs were without two of three best players (Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili).   Still, Portland allowed Tony Parker to do anything and everythin...

Houston... We Have A Problem!

10:40 PM Tue, Feb 24, 2009 |
Adam Bjaranson

The Blazers found the going tough in Houston tonight... losing 98 to 94.   They did make a spirited run late, but it was the early hole they dug, that they weren't able to pull themselves out of.   In the process, Portland and the Rockets swap spots in the Western Conference standings.   In other words, if the season ended today... Houston (now the 4th seed) would host Portland (5th seed) in the fir...

Roy Rises Up

By Joe Becker

What a week for Blazers Guard Brandon Roy.  First, he has another solid performance in the NBA All-Star game playing more minutes than any All-Star in the game with 31.  He scored 14 points and had 5 rebs and 5 assists and the West won Big.

Wednesday he led the Blazers to victory over Memphis 94-90 scoring 7 of the final 10 points to finish with 24 pts.

Then Friday, 27 pts, 7 rebs and 5 assists lead...

Boos for Miles

I can't remember a former Blazer getting booed as bad as Darius Miles during Wednesday night's game at the Rose Garden.   Blazers fans let D-Miles hear it the whole night.

"You could feel the tension when he came into the game," said Blazers Forward Travis Outlaw.  "He came into the game I was like, he's definately going to get booed tonight,' laughing about it.   Miles to...

I'm Flat "Rumored" Out....

Do they, or don't they?   That continues to be the ultimate question in the City of Portland these next few days.   The Blazer brass has less than two days to see if there's a deal that they simply can't refuse.   And the longer they wait, the more I believe some team will fold and unload a player that Kevin Pritchard covets.   In my opinion, I'd prefer Gerald Wallace or Richard Jefferson.&nb...

All-Star Memories

Great All-Star game in Phoenix tonight.  Not so close,  but great action and very entertaining for the fans.   A good dose of Shaq, Kobe, LeBron and the rest of the NBA Stars.   Included in that group was the Blazers own Brandon Roy.

Roy was solid as always hitting 7 of 8 shots.  Many of them were dunks, but he did display his sweet jump shot.  Brandon wound up playing 31 minu...

RUDY SLAMMED BY JUDGES

Blazers Guard Rudy Fernandez took part in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest during All-Star Saturday.    Fernandez paid tribute to former Blazer Fernando Martin, who was the first Spaniard to make it to the NBA.  Sadly, Martin died in an auto accident in 1989.   Rudy went behind his back off the backboard and then slammed it home.  Nice Dunk, but the judges gave him a 42.

Rudy gets so...

Blazers Center Greg Oden hurt his left knee last night in a loss at Golden St. and missed the Rookie Challenge in Phoenix as part of the NBA All-Star Weekend.   Oden bumped knees with the Warriors Corey Maggette early in the 4th qtr.   Greg did return later in the game, but he felt some discomfort.

Oden underwent a precautionary MRI today.  The Blazers released a statement saying t...

Blazers Center Greg Oden is going to miss the NBA Rookie Challenge tonight on Phoenix because of a sore left knee.

Oden was hurt last night when he bumped knees with Corey Maggette in the 4th Qtr of the Blazers loss at Golden St.

Greg was drafted in 2007 but was going to play with the Rookies because he missed all of last seson with a knee injury.

Feeling Bad For Sonics Fans...

10:54 PM Wed, Feb 11, 2009 |
Adam Bjaranson

I'm a Blazers fan...have been since the days of Carr, Cooper, Valentine and Paxson.   I've always rooted against the Sonics (er, Thunder) when they were in Seattle.  It's in the blood of nearly every Blazers fan.   But tonight I found myself feeling a little sorry for them.   I kept thinking what a punk move it was by Stern and Bennett to move 'em to OKC.   A couple hundred (that were visual to me) ...

Stand Pat...Or Make A Trade???

10:48 PM Tue, Feb 10, 2009 |
Adam Bjaranson

It's the age old question this time of year... should the Blazers make a move before the NBA's trade deadline (Feb.19).   To be honest, I lean a little each way.   Do I think they could upgrade their roster with one brisk move?   The answser is an unequivocal YES!!   But, there's something about this current roster that I believe can develop further.   However, it simply can't come at the expen...

New York Knicked by Roy!

By Joe Becker

What a Blazers game today.   First when it was 77-60 Blazers, I thought it would be an easy win.  Then, after a 37-7 run for the Knicks, New York led 97-84 and I thought the Blazers were probably going to lose.  Finally, four seconds and change left and the Blazers down one with the ball, I didn't know what to think.  Brandon Roy gets the ball...drives to the hoop and lays in the gam...

Coach McMillan fan for a Night

In the last month, the Blazers have played 15 games in 9 different states.  Head Coach Nate McMillan is coaching, watching video tape, running practices and traveling.  It goes with the job.  However, instead of Los Angeles, Chicago or Philadelphia....the coach found himself in Corvallis sitting right behind Arizona State's bench at Gill Coliseum.   For one night, Coach McMillan was a fan...watchi...

Oden vs. Durant

Joe Becker

By Joe Becker

The Blazers game at Oklahoma City was the first meeting between Blazers Center Greg Oden and Thunder Forward Kevin Durant.  They were the 1st and 2nd players taken in the 2007 NBA Draft.  So much hype and now they were playing against each other for the first time.

The two players didn't really go head to head because they play different positions...but Durant definately had a much better ga...

Blazers Raise Ticket Prices

By Joe Becker

The Blazers are raising ticket prices more than six percent for next season. However. the increase will not affect the fans in the upper bowl.  Those prices will go unchanged.

The club is sending out Renewal packets on Monday for Season Tickets.  The packets will detail specific pricing information for each potential playoff series and for next season.

The Blazers have sold out 50 st...

Blazers Rally... But Not Enough For Win!

11:06 PM Wed, Feb 04, 2009 |
Adam Bjaranson

The Blazers just don't do well in Dallas.   Wednesday night they gave it their best shot at another late comeback, but came up short 104-99.   That is Portland's 17th loss in their last 19 visits to the home of the Mavericks.   It was an opportunity missed for the young guns.   The Suns, Rockets, and Hornets all lost.   The Blazers are still in 4th place in the Western Conference... and have tw...

Bayless Is Emerging...

Adam Bjaranson

By Adam Bjaranson

The stage was Jerryd Bayless' for the taking on Monday night.   And the 20-year-old Blazer rookie was as stellar as he has been all season.   We can't base the entire body of work on one game, but when Bayless gets a shot, he often comes through with something rather impressive.   I'm the first to admit that Bayless has an enormous ceiling as far as talent.   We know he has ...
