January 2009 ArchivesBy Joe Becker Blazers Coach Nate McMillan has been saying that he would like to see the Blazers get hot and put together a nice run of wins. Well, I think they are getting pretty close...and they might already be there. The Blazers win over the Jazz made 4 wins in a row. They are now 9-3 in their last 12 games. One of their losses came in overtime at Charlotte and another against LeBron and the Cavs. ESPN now has the ... By Joe Becker
Blazers injured guard Steve Blake will miss Saturday's game with Utah because of his injured right shoulder. Blake shot the ball during practice on Friday, but afterward said he would not play against the Jazz and doesn't have a timetable for his return to the lineup. "I'm not sure," said Blake. "I'll just have to evaluate each day." Blake separated his shoulder two weeks ago at Phil... By Joe Becker Make it two in a row for Blazers Guard Brandon Roy. For the second straight year he is picked for the NBA All-Star game by the coaches. "I'm excited about it," Roy said Thursday at the Practice Facility, but he kept the team in mind. "Our goal is still the Playoffs and right now this is one of the steps on the way to that ultimate goal, but it feels good right now." The awards and honors hav... By Adam Bjaranson The stars aligned perfectly for Portland on Tuesday night when Charlotte took the Lakers to not one, but two overtimes. Since the game lasted until 10:30 pm... the Bobcats didn't get out of L.A. until after midnight... meaning they probably didn't get into PDX until around 3 a.m. That's where the good news started... and Portland had an immediate advantage. Factor in that Ch... By Adam Bjaranson The Clippers have been the laughing stock of the NBA for as long as I can remember. For the first 3 quarters on Monday night, it was no laughing matter--the Blazers were in for a fight. Playing without 5 of their best players, the Clippers reserves were matching the Blazers point-for-point for most of the night. That is until Eric Gordon came down with a serious th... By Joe Becker Brandon Roy had 10 steals in the Blazers win over the Wizards and that tied the Blazers franchise record. One more would have tied the NBA record of 11. The mark was set by Larry Kenon in 1976 and tied by Kendall Gill in 1999. Speaking of records, one of the most famous is Wilt Chamberlain's 100 points in one game. Equally as incredible is Wilt's rebound record. Get this, Chamberlain onc... By Joe Becker
Normally, when you say a team stole one, it means they won when they probably should have lost. That didn't happen to the Blazers. They won...and in the process had 21 steals, including a franchise record-tying 10 by Guard Brandon Roy. Roy's numbers were pretty impressive, 22 pts, 5 rebs, 7 assts and 10 steals. Earlier this season Brandon scored 52 points in a win over the Suns. ... By Joe Becker Greg Oden has been 52 for the past season....but only on the roster. As of Thursday January 22nd, Oden is now 21 years old. The big fella celebrated with his mom, dad and uncle. "It wasn't that crazy as most people think," said Oden. "I had a good night. A great night ended off with some Taco Bell. You already know how that goes. It was good." Now a number that Oden is look... The OSU Beavers may have had some distractions for the last couple of weeks due to the hectic schedule of their Head Coach Craig Robinson. But when it comes to playing 40 minutes of sound basketball, C-Rob's players come with focus and energy. At least that was the case on Thursday night. The Beavers rallied from an 11-point deficit in the 2nd half to beat a Pac-10 team on the road for the first time si... By Adam Bjaranson You just gotta admire LeBron James! Unfortunately, when he rolls into Portland, it comes at the expense of a Blazers victory. The Cavs would be a .500 team (at best) without James---he's that vital a player. In fact, the argument continues in our office, in fact, it's almost daily. Who's better right now? LeBron or Kobe? On Wednesday night, LeBron poured... It was what we all thought we'd be getting when the Blazers selected Greg Oden with the #1 overall pick back in June of '07. Seems like ages ago doesn't it? Well, if Monday night was any indication, we are begining to see Oden blossom. You have to wonder if the Oregonian's "Mid-season Report" which said that Oden was the franchise's biggest disappointment in the first half rubbed him the wr... By Joe Becker
Blazers guard Steve Blake will be out much longer than expected with a right shoulder injury. Blake separated his shoulder in Wednesday's loss at Philadelphia. The team originally said he would be out a week to ten days, but Blake was examined here in Portland yesterday and his prognosis changed. Now, he the team says he will be out two to four weeks. "With a sprained shoulder like that, f... Alright... we'd all like a mulligan every now and then, right? Consider this Portland's. The Blazers strolled into Philadelphia, and just forgot to bring their game along with them. They turned the ball over at an alarming rate early on (7 in the 1st quarter)... as the Sixers built a healthy 31-15 lead after 1. In fact, Portland's offense went "awol" too. They scored a season low 33 in that openi...
Yep... referring to that whopper of a 'cap hit' the Blazers will take on once the notorious "head bopper" himself appears in just one more game for the Grizzlies. Six months ago, nobody saw this as a possibility... especially Kevin Pritchard and the Blazers. But, after watching him against LeBron James and the Cavs tonight... we all learned that Miles can certainly still play. Miles scored 13 points in just 14 minute...
If it wasn't for those "intimidators" from Boston on December 5th... then Hedo Turkoglu's "miracle" 4 days later... the Blazers would be a perfect 14 and 0 against the Eastern Conference. Still, following Monday's 109-95 win in Chicago, the Blazers are a very impressive 12 and 2 versus the East. That, my friends, is the best record in the league. Try this for size... Sacramento who has a 9-29 record, is a wo... By Joe Becker
First he was listed as probable, then he was activated before the game...and finally, Brandon Roy was back in the starting lineup for the Blazers against the Warriors. He wasn't supposed to play a whole lot...but felt good and by the end of the game played the final 12 minutes and 30 in the game. His stat line wasn't bad either, 19 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. A pretty complete g... By Joe Becker
What a great game at the Rose Garden! Another fantastic finish and another Blazer victory. So many times this season Blazer games have gone down to the wire. Most of them have gone their way with the exception of the Magic and Clipper games, but add this to the terrific side of the board. Late in the game, when the Blazers were down one and the crowd was cheering during the timeout, ... Well, that is indeed the million dollar question around here. Sure, it's beginning to be a slow time of year for sports... and we surely MUST have something intriguing to reel all of you in. The Blazers are involved in trade talks. If you are reading this blog, you surely know that by now. My question to you.... should the Blazers make a trade, or stay status quo with their current roster? ... By Joe Becker He's not Mike Tyson, but Tyson Chandler apparently wanted to be. He started something with Blazers Center Joel Przybilla during the third qtr of Friday night's game with the Hornets. Przybilla has a wrist injury and was playing defense on Chandler. Tyson slammed Joel on the injured wrist to nock it away and Przybilla gave him a shove. Chandler then threw an arm into Joel, but Przybilla didn't back ... By Joe Becker Blazers All-Star Guard Brandon Roy will be out 7 to 10 days with that right hamstring injury. That's according to the Blazers. Roy sprained his right hamstring during a win over Toronto on Saturday December 27th. He has already missed two games and could miss three more. The team also said that he had a precautionary MRI on his left Knee Saturday and results showed no significant changes to hi... |
