Get The Hook

3:05 PM Thu, Oct 30, 2008 |

In the old days (my kids just cringe when I start a story like that) we had people who operated the cameras in the studio and a person called the floor director. As well as making sure ties were straight and hair wasn't sticking up, their main job was to cue us to the camera that was hot, count us down to stories and keep us posted on time. Susie Bouse was the swee...

Sarah Palin clears Portland streets

11:38 PM Mon, Oct 20, 2008 |

Okay, I can't really be sure, but I think Governor Sarah Palin stopped traffic Saturday night.

We took our teenaged children and a friend to the haunted corn maze on Sauvie Island. The place was packed with young people who waited hours to get in.

Our teens were at the back of the line at 9:00 p.m and it was supposed to close at 10:00.

I thought we'd allowed enough time to get home to see Sarah Palin's debu...

They found him

3:43 PM Fri, Oct 17, 2008 |

It's amazing how three words can turn an afternoon around. They found him! When Mike Benner yelled that out just before three today the whole mood of the newsroom changed.

Despite the beautiful day outside it was another gloomy news day. More bad financial news, a darling little girl hospitalized after a woman drove her car straight into a house, people getting scammed and you know the tone of the election lately.

Then came news...

Attitude of Gratitude

5:35 PM Wed, Oct 15, 2008 |

They came streaming into the Rose Garden for a fine harvest dinner.

Thousands of Portland's homeless and critically low income individuals lined up for turkey, gravy, green beans, stuffing, rolls and pumpkin pie.

I had the honor of being one of the many volunteers helping serve up all the fixings at the Portland Trail Blazers 13th annual Harvest dinner.

The people I served were young and old, pregnant moms,d...

More than a game..

3:01 PM Fri, Oct 10, 2008 |

There's a big football game tonight, at Lakeridge High School.  Not so much the game itself, but where it's being played - and the party that will surround it.

Lakeridge hasn't hosted a HOME football game -- at their own school field -- in nearly 40 years.  The reason?  Neighbor complaints about noise, lights, and traffic/parking issues.  This dispute has forced the team to play its 'home' games at Distric...

Gathering the Vote

7:01 PM Tue, Oct 07, 2008 |

No matter which candidate you back, one thing I think we can all agree on is this election certainly has been interesting and engaging.

Our family sat around the TV eating pizza watching the most recent debate.

I am sure many of your families did the same.

My teenagers were riveted the entire 90 minutes.

It's gratifying to see our young people so interested in what the Presidential and Vice President...

All Wet

3:29 PM Tue, Oct 07, 2008 |

With a headline like that you might think I'm talking about October's weather. Or maybe the big "bailout" plan. There are even some of you who probably think I'm referring to the upcoming presidential debate! But the headline actually hints at a juicy story out today about Starbucks.

A newspaper in the UK reports that Starbucks uses 6 million gallons of water a day at its coffee stores around the world. The story indicates that ...

Tonight's Menu

3:38 PM Fri, Oct 03, 2008 |

It's been a busy week, for sure.  The debate last night, and the financial bailout - have dominated the news.  Now that the House has passed the bailout package, we're going to take a deeper look at some of the details.  You may have noticed, critics of the plan - have an Oregon company in their crosshairs.  That company is the beneficiary of a 'perk' in the plan -- or 'pork' - depending on your position.&nbs...
