Afghanistan is a challenging environment. The conditions are harsh and primative. There exists a very fine line between modern living and tribal nomadic life. The blog entries over the past few weeks have been minimal. There are many more stories still to come. As I have moved about the country over the past few weeks, I have been faced with a variety of challenges, all of which take time to resolve. I have not stopped writing or composing video stories. The key has been timing, and the challenges of connectivity. The one thing that remains constant are the soldiers. They continue to demonstrate a selfless committment to their jobs inspite of the personal challenges they confront. Not every soldier is in combat, but every soldier has an important job in the total operation. As I have said before, every soldier that is here is a hero. My stories will continue. But for now, I just got the call and I'm on the move again. Thanks for continuing to read along. 4 CommentsLeave a comment |

I really think you're doing a great job, and making a difference for the people back home. There are a lot of people who'd like to know more about the conflict and rebuilding in Afghanistan, but there isn't usually much news coverage. I may have mentionned this before, but your work reminds me a lot of Michael Yon, who has a very strong military blogging community. If you'd care to, perhaps you might check them out?

My son is in the royal engineer commandos and will be sent to Helmand in a few months time. He is 20 years old. He is upset that he hasn't already gone with his mates yet, he has to go to africa first to do more training. I desperately need to keep 'up to date' with the situation over there.
