EDITOR'S NOTE: Scott Kesterson's Forward Operating Base puts him beyond internet access. This report was called in by satellite phone and transcribed. Last night, two Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were seriously injured in a single- vehicle accident south of our Forward Operating Base (FOB) here in SE Afghanistan. The soldiers sustained head injures, one with a deep laceration to the head, the other with a concussive blow that left him unconscious. Medical aid was administered on site both by the National Guard ETT Staff Sgt. Blake and myself. During the course of administering first aid, our FOB was attacked by a group of anti- government forces which are presumed to be Taliban Several RPGs, as well as small arms fire, were directed at the FOB. The attack lasted only a few minutes. Both U.S. and ANA forces returned fire. There were no casualties as a result of the attack. Once the area was re-secured the two ANA soldiers were transported back to the FOB and Medivac was arranged for their transport to proper medical facilities. There was no word on their condition this morning. In the words of the ETTs that are here: 'This is the wild, wild west of Afghanistan.' There is never a dull moment. |
