A river parade? Really?

This has to be one of the hardest blogs I have written since KENS 5 .Com began simply because I don't want to come across the wrong way. So here goes, a river parade, really?

The McAllister Park Little Leaguers will parade down the river this Sunday in recognition of their outstanding performance at the Little League World Series. While it was an outstanding performance does it warrant a river parade?

I think we are sending the wrong message to these kids and others like them. We have had several championship performances in this city, by Pop Warner football teams, cheerleading groups, tennis players, not to mention State Championships in football, baseball etc, and not one of these teams has been treated to a river parade, and they won a championship.

The reason we are so intrigued by McAllister Park is because their games were televised, we all got to see their performance first hand, and yes it had this city electrified.

But just because those other performances were not on t.v. doesn't make them any less significant.

Keep in mind, the kids are not the ones clamoring for this attention, they seem like great kids, this other stuff, quite frankly reeks of politics.

I salute the McAllister Park Little Leaguers, the coaches and the parents. I enjoyed welcoming them home at the airport, but a river parade? really??

I agree 100%. Who made this decision? Why weren't other former almost champions given a River Parade? Who paid for this?

Why so harsh on a River Parade? The feat these kids achieved was something to be very proud of, one of the four best teams in the world. They brought national attention to our city as well as uplifting the pride of San Antonio. It was a River Parade, how much fan fare is that? Apparently, it was enough to garner a good size crowd. I feel proud of how our city reacts to good fortune. I guess you have to be from here to really appreciate it. No hard feelings. Still watch you,(and Sara) every night.
