Forget New York, LA, and Paris! San Antonio has come into it's own -- with it's very first ever FASHION WEEK!

Celebrated this week, there are all kinds of fashion-forward events for SA's Fashionistas to attend!

Tuesday Oct. 6
6:00 - 8:30 pm
San Antonio Museum of Arts
"Gaining Fashion Inspirations from the Arts."
Location: San Antonio Museum of Arts
Enjoy a docent led tour through selected galleries in the museum to find that magic spark within and finish with Fashion Sketching seminar with IADT New York instructor Martha Villarreal.
Fee: donations accepted; email fgisanantonio@gmail.com or contact Cynthia Rangel at 507-5885 for reservations.

Thursday, Oct. 8
12:00 - 1:00 pm
La Fuerza Unida "Strength United, the Thread of Justice"
Sewing Co-operative
Location: La Fuerza Unida 710 New Laredo Hwy
Fuerza Unida was formed in 1990 when one of the Levi Strauss' factories on the South Side of San Antonio closed, leaving over 1,150 workers without jobs and with unjust severance pay. The majority of the women did not have a high level of education or other job prospects beyond their work at Levi Strauss. As a result of the plant closure, the women organized themselves to demand fair compensation from Levi Strauss, as well as better working conditions for workers in other factories. Tour this valuable local production resource brimming with skilled hands and see a fascinating demonstration.
Fee: no fee, but donations accepted; email fgisanantonio@gmail.com for reservations or call 210-805-9298.

This is my favorite time of year! Time for the kiddos to head back to school -- in style!

A few of the trends you'll see this fall:

Grey -- It's the new black!! Pair it with bold, bright colors for a "pop"!

Leggings / Tunics -- They go with EVERYTHING, they're comfy. Buy them in bulk, in every color you can think of!

Skinny Jeans -- Newsflash! If you've been hiding under a rock lately, boot-cut jeans are nowhere to be found! Kids are rocking the skinny jean with everything!

Gladiator Sandals -- Forget the flip-flops! It stays warm enough in South Texas to rock these year-round. They go with dresses, jeans, shorts, ANYTHING!

Hair Accessories -- Feeling creative? Add a flower, headband, or ribbon to complete your look

ROCK it out!! -- Rock chic is in!! How do you do it? Stick to grey, black, silver....clothing embellished with silver studs...vests, t-shirts....black eyeliner, red lipstick.....lots of bracelets.

See you in third period!!

Are You HOT??

sweat.jpgAre you hot?

I know I am....and not in that way either....but this hundred degree weather's got me sizzling!!

The other day, the A/C went out in my car...much to my dismay. How come your A/C never goes out in the middle of winter?

Nonetheless, I had to adjust my style from a "cool diva" to "sizzling chic" somewhat overnight. However, these tips might come in handy for those of you finding yourself in some hot situations.

1. Stay away from silky fabrics -- pit stains don't look good on anyone.
2. Cotton or linen works best -- it breathes and keeps you cool
3. Ponytails have never been so stylish! If you know you're going to end up pulling it back anyway...make it chic, and sleek!
4. Dress in layers. It's easier to take that top layer off when it gets sweltering and unbearable.
5. Keep flip flops in your car. Sweaty feet in heels = Blisters, Blisters, Blisters
6. Minimize the makeup, PLEASE. Tinted moisturizer, mascara, blush and lipgloss are all you need.
7. Pit Pads -- I talked about them on the show...our Associate producer Amy actually tested them....they work!
8. Keep baby wipes and deodorant in your purse to freshen up. Don't douse yourself with perfume...it makes it worse!

And last but not least...get your A/C fixed!

As a child of the 80's, I was more than upset at the passing of legend Michael Jackson. But while people might remember him as the "King of Pop"...there was much more to this man than just the music and the dance.

Whether it was the sequined glove, or the military jacket, Michael Jackson will always be remembered for how he inspired fashion all over the world.

His unique look burst on the scene with the "Jackson Five"...bell bottom pants, fedoras, and platform shoes. Paisley shirts and suede vests were his trademark when he was young. As his music changed, so did his style. Who could forget the dashing look of Tuxedo Jackets and white socks? And who didn't don a glove on your left hand with your own sewn-on sequence just to mirror the image of the "gloved one"? When he came out with "Thriller", I begged my mom to get me a red military jacket. What would I have worn it with? Who knows...but I HAD to have one.

And WHO do you think made Aviator glasses cool?? Well, it certainly wasn't Tom Cruise...it was Michael Jackson!

Michael's music will live on forever, but his clothes have inspired people around the world (including me) to show their creativity and character through their clothing.

Vintage Bathing Suits

marilynbeach.jpgMarilyn Monroe bathing-suit.jpgIt's time to update that 2008 bikini and go retro! Fast forward to 2009, and say goodbye to the bikini... and hello to the vintage bathing suit!

An easy excuse to slip out of that teeny weeny bikini....and hide that extra five pounds you've been trying to lose, the vintage bikini looks great on ANY shape! PLUS...you'll be the trendiest girl on the beach!

These suits were inspired by the 1950's icon - Marilyn Monroe, who made the suit the staple of fashionistas of that era.

If you've ever had to suck in your tummy....the retro suit is just for you! It is a one-piece that flatters every figure, with a variety of styles to choose from.

Need a little lift? Try a halter style. Have great collarbones? Try a low-cut V-neck or an off the shoulder or one shoulder style. If your legs are your best asset, put on a suit with a higher-cut on the thighs. That will elongate your legs and make them look fabulous!

So take some fashion advice from Marilyn...and rock the vintage bathing suit!
