For the second time in 3 weeks the Arizona Football team had two players receive Pac-10 Player of the Week honors. First it was Willie Tuitama and Mike Thomas getting Offensive and Special Teams honors, respectively. This time around, Linebacker Spencer Larsen and cornerback Antoine Cason were named the Defensive and Special Teams weekly award winners. Larsen had a game high 16 tackles, a sack, and forced fumble. Cason scored on a 56-yard punt return that gave the Cats a 31-11 lead before halftime..... On another positive note.... Sunday, Cason was named the Walter Camp Football Foundation National Player of the Week for his efforts against the then 2nd-ranked Oregon Ducks (7 tackles, 11 PBU's, Int, 2 TD's). Today, the senior defensive back was named one of three finalists for the Jim Thorpe award; given to the best defensive back in the country. Cason was a semi-finalist for the award last season. Cornerback Darryll Lewis is the only other Wildcat to receive the award (1990); Chuck Cecil was a two-time semi-finalist (1986-1987), Baltimore Ravens cornerback was a finalist in 1998, and safety Darrell Brooks was a semi-finalist in 2005. The award winner will be announced during ESPN's College Football Awards Show Dec. 6th.
