Will It Get Better?

Week One of the 2007 College Football season is in the books, and it was not a pretty site watching the Cats struggle putting up 7 points against BYU. Perhaps, as fans and hopeful media, we expected too much, too soon from Arizona's Multi-Spread offense that is still in the very early stages of development (5 months of practice combining Spring, Summer, and Fall Camp). I know I had high expectations thinking Willie T. would hit Mike Thomas and Anthony Johnson in stride, as they eluded Cougar defenders, scoring an onslaught of points in the season opener giving everyone a sense that OUR TEAM would be in the hunt for the Pac-10 title. I'm not saying they're completely out of it after one game, because it's just that.... ONE GAME. Although, this week is a true test for the team to see how they come together with their backs against the wall. Whether they think it or not, their backs are against the wall, because at times like these "finger pointing" can begin and the downward spiral would be inevitable. Avoiding that is on the teams' shoulders, but from our stand point, we have to rally behind the guys and hope they turn that corner. Maybe they care what the fans/media think or maybe they don't, but I know (being a former player myself) that they want Arizona Stadium to be filled to the brim, proving that the Tucson faithful still has their backs. Will things get better? Sure. Will they get better next week? Maybe. Either way, put on your best cardinal and navy outfit, and stand proud to be the WILDCAT you are.
