Quarterback Shuffle

8:40 PM Mon, Oct 30, 2006 |
Vinnie Vinzetta

The word from Mike Stoops on Monday is that no starting quarterback has yet been named for Saturday at Washington State...Could be Willie Tuitama who has been cleared for contact...Could be Adam Austin...Could be Kris Heavner...We'll know more by the mid week I would say...And BTW...The Cougars snuck into the AP Top 25 at number 25 this week...Vinnie

Consistent Every Year

9:16 PM Thu, Oct 26, 2006 |
B. Nash

Now that the post season has started for the Fall High School sports (except football) I wanted to drop some kudos on a few schools. Here at the Sports Force, we try to get around to all the schools and cover all the sports in every season, but I must say that I'm very impressed with Sabino, Ironwood Ridge, Salpointe Catholic, and Catalina Foothills for there consistent play (for the last few seasons) in sports such as Swimming and Diving, Bo...

Heavner Playbook

Vinnie Vinzetta

Define how you will...But...Mike Stoops says that the Wildcat offensive playbook will be open only about 70 to 75 percent for starting QB Kris Heavner this week...And this could be coach speak...But...Both Stoops and Heavner feel like he has settled in well this week...However I get the vibe that Stoops is concerned about the lack of reps that Heavnver has had thus far over the course of the season...Vinnie

Catch the Cats

B. Nash

Lute Olson and the guys are saying this season could be a very special year for Arizona Basketball. They have - 3 key seniors in Mustafa Shakur, Ivan Radenovic, and Kirk Walters.... returning players with plenty of game day experience (Marcus Williams, Fendi Onobun).... and a trio of freshman (Chase Bundinger, Nic Wise, and Jordan Hill) that are expected to be contributors early in their careers. Looks as though the building blocks are i...

Bowl Bound?

8:22 PM Mon, Oct 16, 2006 |
B. Nash

After Saturdays win over Stanford, a few Arizona football players said the team is focused on getting 3 more wins (starting with Oregon State) so they can be eligible for Arizona's first bowl game since 1998. I understand the guys are keepinig a positive outlook on the rest of the season, but shouldn't they be MORE focused on just winning THIS game. Instead of concentrating on winning just 3 more games, they should focus on taking these last...

The story on the Arizona Wildcat quarterback situation is one of evaluation...They'll take a look at Willie Tuitama...They'll take a look as well at Adam Austin...Both are day to day at the moment...We'll know more in the coming days from Coach Stoops...It could be Kris Heavner's team for the week...Vinnie

Dark Day For Fright Night

Vinnie Vinzetta

A former Arizona State University football star
was sentenced Friday to 80 years in prison for the sexual assaults
of two women in 2003.
Mitchell Freedman, known as "Fright Night" for his crushing
hits on the field, was accused of attacking the victims at
gunpoint.
A jury in Phoenix convicted Freedman on 15 counts, including
kidnapping, aggravated assault, sexual assault and sexual abuse in...

New Coach, New results....

8:54 PM Wed, Oct 11, 2006 |
B. Nash

As of this week the UA football team now has a co-offensive coordinator in Dana Dimel to help out Mike Canales with the play calling. Hopefully his expertise as a former head coach and offensive coordinator will help open up the run game. They say two heads are better than one, so now I'm looking forward to seeing SOME positive results this weekend since Stanford is THE WORST team in all of Div 1-A football when it comes to defending the run...

Vinnie Vinzetta

Didn't see the paper this morning but heard from B Nash that Dana Dimmel has been named Co-Offensive Coordinator with the Wildcats...Currently in the middle of his first year with UA...Interesting move halfway through the season...We're trying to get some video of his head coaching days at Houston to show what kind of offense he ran...Hopefully we'll have that tonight on the Sports Force...Vinnie

Basketball on the horizon

2:14 AM Tue, Oct 10, 2006 |

NBA training camp's are winding down and the preseason is beginning. The return of basketball is less than one month away and I know people in Tucson are ready for it. The Wildcats men's basketball team has their media day this week, and McKale Madness on Friday night 10-13. I know were all excited to see what Chase Buddinger can do on the college level, and if Mustafa Shakur can take his great run in the tourney last year and turn it into th...

The T.O Drama is over (for now)

2:10 AM Tue, Oct 10, 2006 |

Donovan McNabb and the Eagles handed the Terrell Owens led Dallas Cowboys a 38-24 loss on Sunday 10-8. And that means that we FINALLY don't have to hear about Terrell Owens for a while. The next time those two teams meet will be Christmas Day, but with the way things are going, the Cowboys will be long out of the playoff hunt and McNabb might be securing his MVP season. By then there should be many more story lines to talk about then a squab...

Wildcats have same result in Football

2:03 AM Tue, Oct 10, 2006 |

As per the last 5 years, it's mid-October and we Wildcat fans are already talking about the first day of basketball practice. Next season, I want to have no expectations. Instead of talking bowl game at the beginning of this year, we should have talked about winning more than three games. That would have been an admirable goal, and one that everyone in the Tucson community is talking about now. Coach Larry Smith brought up a good point in t...
