Towards the end of Arizona's second practice Thursday evening, during their 11-on-11 team period, one voice could be heard louder than all the calls being made and all the directions from the coaches. It was walk-on defensive back Victor Yates (in case you forgot he was the starting QB for the 2005 4A Division II State Champions - Palo Verde High School). Throughout camp at Rincon Vista Yates has kept his enthusiasm high letting everyone know that he's all about the defensive.... "Let's Go Blue." Referring to the Defensive Unit's jersey color. His reps were few and far between but his enthusiasm never faltered and tonight he got his chance to show what he could do. All the other players were ecstatic when he got in and after a play or two they took a shot at Yates deep.... incomplete pass.... practice over... and no conditioning. That may be all the best action Yates gets for quite some time but it was inspiring to see the effect he has on his teammates when he's cheering every play, whether he gets in or not. Go Yates.
