Phoenix
We really had a great time on this trip. We met lots of wonderful people and hopefully made new friends. That was the highlight for me. Just people. The people I work with. The nice people I met. We had a great team.
There were those amusing moments, like Brad sleeping in the RV for fear of ghosts.
Dan almost not making it to the last show because he overslept. "You always look better when you're ...

TUCSON
Can you believe this trip is over? What a journey!
2 am: The 4th avenue shop area is streaming - or more like weaving - with drunk U of A students just leaving the bars. We are hesitant to put our equipment out on the sidewalks, not like the other places we have done the show from. The kids are loud, of course, and rambunctious, knocking over one of our barriers for the trucks. And I'm sure happy to be ...

TUBAC
1:00 am: Tubac Presidio is a very interesting place. It brought back memories for me of when I worked for the National Park Service, preparing the grounds for visitors early in the morning. This was one of the earlier mornings for the crew. Bobby saw 3 shooting stars. I made decaf coffee in the RV, loving the coffee pot that Lisa Alering bought for it. The visitor’s center had regular for everyone ...

Tombstone
1:30 am: The streets are quiet in Tombstone, but there is music coming from one saloon: Big Nose Kate’s. The barkeep there, JD, is pouring coffee with the help of Frank, and that keeps the crew moving right along. Always a big help.
Walking along that boardwalk in a quiet, historic, Western town made me wish I had on my boots amd spurs! Such a cool sound. The owner of Big Nose Kate’s, ...

Bisbee
After one day off, we’re on the road again! Yesterday was a travel day, from Phoenix to Bisbee and it went very well. My new navigator, Mr. Dan Houck, even took a turn at the helm. No problems. We drove into Bisbee to lots of waves from the people. I even had time to peruse a few shops before dinner & bed at the Copper Queen Hotel, a great place that I have stayed before. I LOVE that hotel!
Of course, Brad...

Prescott
1:30 am: It was cold on this morning. the local bank thermometer read 44. I was not expecting that! Had to put on an extra sweatshirt.
Today was the day we look forward to a day off tomorrow. Yeah. My feet could use one.
5 am: Prescott was very welcoming. People came out to see everyone, get autographs, & enjoy the Mariachis. Happy Cinco de Mayo!
Packing up we all had visions of sleeping...

2 PM: Nothing like getting up in the middle of the night in a ghost town. I went down to the Mile High restaurant to open up and get it lighted for Tara's first hour. There were a few curious stragglers from the saloons. they didn't last long though. I'm sure they headed for some badly needed shut-eye.
Ghost stories again this morning. At the Mile High Inn, Scott turned on his shower to warm it up, when he...

Grand Canyon, Arizona
2 AM: Set up early again. Did you know that when it’s the middle of the night, you can’t see anything over the edge of the Grand Canyon. But, let me tell you, when the sun rises... it is spectacular!
5 AM: GMAZ goes on the air and that alone was miraculous since Channel 3 had been off the air all night due to a major power outage back at the Phoenix studio. Half way through the show, our c...

Sedona
Here we are at the Red Rock Educational Center, which really is fabulous, and it's about 1:30 am. I set up the lights for the show, which helps us see what we are doing. It was a little disappointing to note that the frequent night visitors ie: javalina, deer, bunnies, have decided to avoid our noisy and bright production.
The show goes very well, highlighted by a fantastic jazz band. I was thankful that ...

Like what seems like the majority of people living in this state, I immigrated to Arizona. While I've lived in the Valley of the Sun off and on since 1992, I've never been to the Grand Canyon, or spent much time at the destinations we're visiting on Week 1 of the Road Trip. So as a producer, it's both a challenge and a blessing. I'm able to play "tourist," and try and help bring back the stories that other desert dwellers might be intereste...

Day 2: Monday, May 1
Page, Arizona
2 AM: As part of the crew, I start to help set up for the show at this very early hour. Everyone should try this sometime. You get to see the sunrise and everything! We ran long heavy cables and took cameras and equipment down a very steep hill to the dock behind the Wahweep resort. Got a great workout for my thighs and calves.
5 AM: GMAZ goes on the air and once again, ...
