May 2006 ArchivesAs I was heading up the interstate to Phoenix, and I was pretty happy to be going home. It's been terrific two weeks, and I've really warmed up to southern Arizona, but I'm ready to get to get back to a regular routine. I did, however, thoroughly enjoy being on the road and meeting new people. For some of the crew, we went to new places that were fun to explore. Needless to say, I'e been around for quite some time so there... Phoenix There were those amusing moments, like Brad sleeping in the RV for fear of ghosts. Dan almost not making it to the last show because he overslept. "You always look better when you're ... TUCSON 2 am: The 4th avenue shop area is streaming - or more like weaving - with drunk U of A students just leaving the bars. We are hesitant to put our equipment out on the sidewalks, not like the other places we have done the show from. The kids are loud, of course, and rambunctious, knocking over one of our barriers for the trucks. And I'm sure happy to be ... I got my first laugh at just after 4 this morning when I drove past Scott's car and saw it had been TP'd.
TUBAC It was early this morning in Rio Rico when I heard someone from one of the balcones yelling, "Where are my nachos!?" I realized the question was more rhetorical than anything when I turned to see Royal, hair all messed up waving his arms at me. He was maing light of our dinner experience last night when we order nachos, at 8:30pm and they never arrived, (actually it was chips and salsa, but became nachos for some odd reason). Far be it from me... Tombstone Walking along that boardwalk in a quiet, historic, Western town made me wish I had on my boots amd spurs! Such a cool sound. The owner of Big Nose Kate’s, ... I feel pretty fortunate that I get to explore Southern Arizona on this trip. This is part of the state I haven't seen, and I think is widely overlooked. Yesterday at Coronado National Memorial, we could see well into Mexico from the live shot. We could also smell a wildfire burning accross the border. The hike up to the cave was not bad at all, and going inside made it all worth it. Today at Kartchner Caverns, we took ... It's just a short drive from Bisbee to Tombstone, and even though I got here at 11 a.m., my room was ready. Since my stories were done earlier, I have the day free and that means a two-hour nap before Tara and Scott come knocking to use my computer. We're staying at a new Holiday Inn Express, and it's very nice....Wi-Fi, good air conditioning and thick towels. It's sometimes hard to get a good night's sleep in a hotel; I'm fin... Bisbee lived up to it's reputation as a unique place with lots of characters walking the streets. Bisbee Of course, Brad... We were all pretty happy to spend the weekend at home, even though it ended up being only a day and a half. I had to go in the station on Saturday morning to edit my story on the silver mine opening in Tombstone for Tuesday. Then Sunday I was back at the station at 11 a.m. and heading south. Sunday turned out to be a pretty crummy day for me. I realized I left my phone chargers in Prescott (I hope), I forgot my glasses (had my... It was good to see Marty and the Queen of Clean this morning. (Click their photo for a larger image. Want to see their antiquing segment? Prescott Today was the day we look forward to a day off tomorrow. Yeah. My feet could use one. 5 am: Prescott was very welcoming. People came out to see everyone, get autographs, & enjoy the Mariachis. Happy Cinco de Mayo! Packing up we all had visions of sleeping... What a great town Jerome turned out to be, and I'm talking about the people, not the buildings. Just as soon as we got in to town on Wednesday, people were greeting us with open arms. We even had time AFTER OUR WORK WAS DONE, to go enjoy some cold ones at the Spirit Room. Met some leathered up bikers from Holland there, some local town folk, and I almost beat Scott at pool so it was a good afternoon. I think one of the great th... Jerome Ghost stories again this morning. At the Mile High Inn, Scott turned on his shower to warm it up, when he... It was a gorgeous day to do the morning show from the "Red Rock State Park". We had all sorts of things going on from massages to yoga and even some jazz music by "The A List". I think what we showed today gave people, who have never been to Sedona, a glimpse of how beautiful this place really is to visit. Some highlights included Tara interviewing some students camping out in the area. Our own Mark Tarbell stopped by to give... This morning's show from Sedona went great, but you sure wouldn't know it if you had been here early this morning. We seemed to hit bottom today because we had some communication problems -- camera people were in a panic because they weren't sure what they were supposed to be shooting, but people were yelling for the shot. >> Continue reading: Live from Sedona Grand Canyon, Arizona 2 AM: Set up early again. Did you know that when it’s the middle of the night, you can’t see anything over the edge of the Grand Canyon. But, let me tell you, when the sun rises... it is spectacular! 5 AM: GMAZ goes on the air and that alone was miraculous since Channel 3 had been off the air all night due to a major power outage back at the Phoenix studio. Half way through the show, our c... Sedona The show goes very well, highlighted by a fantastic jazz band. I was thankful that ... What a wild morning this turned out to be. By now you know that the station lost power overnight, and it was a major scramble to get things organized to make the show happen. Good people back at the station were in a clutch, but they came through it with flying colors. >> Continue reading: Grand Canyon It was another early morning crew call. I got to the El Tovar at about 3:30 in the morning. I grabbed a quick bite to eat and then it was show time. It was a pretty packed show and I thought all the segments looked great. These included learning about the Grand Canyon IMax movie, the history of Phantom Ranch, white water rafting down the canyon and watching the dancers outside the Hopi House. It was great to see how all the talent inte... Like what seems like the majority of people living in this state, I immigrated to Arizona. While I've lived in the Valley of the Sun off and on since 1992, I've never been to the Grand Canyon, or spent much time at the destinations we're visiting on Week 1 of the Road Trip. So as a producer, it's both a challenge and a blessing. I'm able to play "tourist," and try and help bring back the stories that other desert dwellers might be intereste... Our first show is now done, and done well may I say. Of course, with Lake Powell as our backdrop, how could we go wrong? We did have one problem -- our earpieces didn't work for about the first hour, so we couldn't hear anything from the station, but we survived. >> Continue reading: Lake Powell Day 2: Monday, May 1 Page, Arizona 5 AM: GMAZ goes on the air and once again, ... The first day of the road show was great. The talent got a chance to show the viewers what Lake Powell was all about. They toured all kinds of houseboats, featured all types of water toys and even got a chance to interact with the audience. While Tara, Dan, and Scott were hanging out at the Wahweap Marina, Brad was having some fun at the resort's pool. 3TV's Lisa Alering, who spent most of her day hanging out with Brad and phot... |
