Report: McAllister, Smith among players testing positive for banned substance

A Colorado TV station is citing a league source as reporting that Saints players Deuce McAllister and Will Smith are among a half dozen or so players who have recently tested positive for a banned substance under the league's steroid policy.

The report from Josina Anderson of FOX31 in Colorado quotes the league source as saying that "three to four of them (the positive tests) are from the Saints organization alone - including McAllister and Smith.

The substance that allegedly triggered the positive tests was not a steroid, according to the source, but a drug that is known as a 'water pill,' that can be used to mask the use of drugs or steroids.

The source told the Colorado station that the pill was most likely for weight loss, but that the players would still be subject to suspension pending appeal.

Does Anyone Know The NFL Is Here In London?

Let me clear this up for everyone who thinks that I am crying, lighten up, this is a little diary of our experience in London as well as the Saints. ok Teddy and Sir Andrew. FYI, I am the executive sports producer, Joe Frisard.

We woke up this morning and if you want any news of the Saints-Chargers game don't read the local papers. Not a peep about the game from the 3 papers that are offered at our hotel, but we did find a story in the London Times about the Saints after looking through 3 more papers. In fact most of the people we've run across out in the streets barely knew their was a game being played this coming Sunday. We did however meet a couple of people from the U.S. who live here who had tickets to the game but are big Redskins fans. In fact we spoke to a guy from the BBC radio and he said that many of the people who will be at the game on Sunday will just be fans of the NFL, not one of the teams playing, so for all of the Saints fans who have been complaining about the team being over here you have a valid point about losing a home game. He said to expect loud cheers whenever something exciting happens or whenever someone scores no matter which team it is.

The Saints will return to practice this morning at The Grove just outside of the hotel they are staying at before moving to a hotel located in the heart of the city. We will have an update later on once practice ends to find out Shockey's status as well as Bryan Young's. Let's hope it's good news, although I personally think the Saints are better off without Shockey. There will be no media availability for either team tomorrow.

One another note, while we were out last night we saw Deuce McAllister walking around Picadilly Circus (kind of like Times Square in NYC). He was just being a tourist and I'm sure he enjoyed the fact that no one recognized him. We also ate at a really good Italian restaurant that had the manager/waiter cracking everyone up. He was yelling things in Italian and broken English. For all of you Family Guy fans, kind of like Peter when he had a mustache and walked into the Italian deli, hilarious! We also continue to keep our costs down which will only please our bosses. The area we were in was crawling with poeple past 11 PM, it was quite a sight to see.

We will have an update from Jim and Juan later on in our video blogs.

Saints Practice At Arsenal: Shockey Limited

OK, here is another update on how today went. By the way sorry that some readers of my last blog thougth I was crying, I guess no one has any sense of humor. By the way to our boy Kris, he's not the only one who suffered during Katrina and Ike, I lost my home and everything I owned as did many friends and relatives.

Now back to the Saints, today they practiced at Arsenal's training ground which was windy and much colder than in the city. The media was not allowed to view the practice and most of the players ran to the bus to get out of there quickly. Even that nice guy Jeremy Shockey, who was supposed to talk according to NFL rules, waved the Saints public relations team off as he ran to the team bus to avoid the cold and media. Deuce met the media for the first time since arriving over here. He downplayed his first start of the season coming up, saying he's been down this road before. Sean Payton was impressed with the Arsenal facility but it is still unkown where the team will practice tomorrow before moving to a location into the city. Mike McKenzie did practice, Jeremy Shockey was limited, and Bryan Young didn't practice. Payton wouldn't commit as to whether Shockey would play Sunday, only saying that he looked better.

Juan Kincaid covered Chargers practice and caught up with Jacob Hester and Buster Davis. They both said they missed the food back home and Hester was excited to play against the Saints, the team he grew up rooting for. We'll have more with those 2 guys on our special show airing Sunday at 10 AM New Orleans time.

One more note, the players and coaches families arrived today but Payton said he didn't expect them to be a distraction.

We are out and will soon find out whether or not we have hot water (I'll personally call Kris to let him know) and will hit the town. We'll have another update tomorrow.

Bad Luck In London

When we last left you we were finishing up our stories for the day before going to get something to eat.

The night didn't begin well, we got back to our hotel and the power was out. A little tough to get cleaned up or change clothes in pitch black darkness.

I was able to brush my teeth but that was about it. Luckily, I didn't feel or smell that bad.

We ventured to the tube or train and headed towards China Town and the Theatre District. The streets were swarming with people. It had a very New York vibe to it.

We ate at a Chinese restaurant and then walked around for awhile after that to check out some of the sights. We were delighted to see that our hotel had gotten power back so we got some sleep.

The trouble at the hotel picked up again once we awoke. NO HOT WATER!! I spent 10 minutes trying to figure it out thinking I was doing something wrong because the faucets aren't like home only to walk downstairs and have Juan and the other guys tell me they had the same problem and that the hotel said they'd hope to have it fixed shortly.

They didn't and I had to brave it out and take a cold shower. It wasn't fun.

To top it all off, I didn't feel that well when I got up.

Jim arrived earlier today and right now he is at the Arsenal training grounds waiting to speak with Sean Payton and some players while Juan Kincaid is heading to Chargers practice to see if we can talk to former LSU star Jacob Hester and O.P. Walker and LSU star Craig "Buster" Davis.

Don't forget to watch our special one hour pre-game show this Sunday at 10 a.m. New Orleans time on Channel 4.

I will get both of Jim and Juan's thougths later today and hope to have them on the web for you guys to see.

Joe and crew signing off.

Saints from abroad: Does London care?

If you're like me, you're interested to see what the blokes in London are saying or writing about this thing they call American Football.

As of Wednesday afternoon, not a whole heck of a lot.

A look through the British tabs pulled up these stories:

A story in the London Mail chronicling how the Saints are helping bring New Orleans back post-Katrina. My favorite part of this story which has been written about 1,000 times - in the breakout box labeled 'NFL at Wembley by Numbers,' it calls an NFL game "razzmatazz." Awesome.

According to The Sun, Sean Payton was big fan of kebob when he was in Leicester as a player-coach. No pints for the Saints coach this week, however.

And, of course, some of the big news is that Reggie Bush won't be in London. And because of that, the pop culture crazed Brits won't get to see Kim Kardashian, or so says the Metro. Drats!

Other than that, the only thing I found today was a pictorial of the Saintsations in bikinis. But because this is a family-friendly Web site, I'll let you find that on your own.

Saints Hit Practice Field In England

Today the team hit the practice field for the first time since arriving in London. They are actually staying at a nice hotel/resort outside of London in a city called Watford, about 45 minutes to an hour outside of the city. The place is surrounded by a golf course and hills with a tiny European road leading up to the main building. The practice field is nestled in between several trees and for the media to get to it we needed to walk through a courtyard. The courtyard had a lawn chess board, two grass tennis courts, a garden, sand volleyball court, for some reason a tee-pee, and a bunch of little houses, and a croquet court. It was pretty impressive. I think you have to have money to stay here, therefore I'll never have the pleasure of doing so. When the sun was out it felt nice, but when the clouds covered the sun it was cold. Now to the team, Jeremy Shockey participated in the stretching portion of practice but left afterwards to get treatment on his hernia injury, Mike McKenzie spent time on the bike, he has sat out of the past few Wednesday practices as well. After practice the players hit the weight room and some meetings before some were going to see more of the city. The channel 4 crew are finishing up work in the next couple of hours and will head into the city as well to get a bite and throw back a few. So far the trip has been very interesting and we all are enjoying it. I am going to have to keep an eye on Juan Kincaid so he doesn't get into any trouble. Tomorrow Jim Henderson arrives and we are all going to make him buy us an expensive dinner since he's the bread winner in the department. We'll be back tomorrow to tell you more about the team and our adventure.

Wednesday Morning In London

Here is another update from us in London. Today is colder than the previous two days, about 50 degrees but the sun is out right now at 9:30 AM London time, 3:30 AM back home. The Saints changed their practice location for today, instead of practicing at Arsenal's practice ground, they will be practicing at what's called The Grove, just beside the team hotel. According to the team release they are only making selected players available to speak with the media but hopefully they allow us access to more guys. We'd love to hear about what they did yesterday on their day off and if we do find out we'll be sure to let you know. Last night we ate at a nice pub that was showing both Champions League Soccer matches on TV. Garland, one of our cameramen is a huge Manchester United fan and he was happy with their 3-0 win, I am an Arsenal fan and I got to sit with some true blooded English Arsenal fans and we saw them win 4-1. It was pretty cool sitting with these guys as they watched their sport, I suppose it would be the same if any of you ever had an English friend over to the states and they hung out with you as you rooted on the Saints in some local bar. I must be honest, I stuck with the beer I know, which was Erdinger and cold. I still can't bring myself to drink warm beer, I don't care about the saying "When in Rome". Check back in later as we will have more from the Saints in later blogs and our newscasts.

More From London

Here is another update from across the pond from the channel 4 sports staff covering the game. The Saints spent their day sightseeing and we were expecting to see more of them at the designated locale the NFL and team gave us, unfortunately most of them either went their own way or decided to rest up. We did, however, run into a few of the team personnel and some players like Jon Stinchcomb and Kevin Kaesveiharn for a short time. They seemed excited to get around and check out some of the sights. Me and one of our cameramen ventured out for awhile to get some footage of famous Landmarks. 3 of the 4 of us who are here had never been to London before and it's been pretty cool checking out the city. It's really big and has a huge international population. We lucked out today and got absolutely perfect weather, at least i thougt it was, 50-55 degrees I guess, windy and the sun was out the entire time. We are finishing up editing our stories for today before we try to find a place to eat and watch the Champions league soccer matches tonight. I promise not to spend too much of the stations money. In fact we've been good so far and that's hard considering London is very expensive. Anyway we will head to practice tomorrow and get down to football which is why we are here. So long for today.

National media jump on Saints, Brees bandwagon...why?

It's amazing how the rout of a very bad team suddenly has everyone talking about how dangerous the Saints are. Overlooking the fact they've blown several games late, the talk is about how they 'could' be 5-1 with some made field goals.

Granted, all the talk about Brees as midseason MVP is warranted and justified, but the next two weeks are incredibly important and tough. Winning at Carolina or at a neutral site against a suddenly rising Chargers team will be tough. Taking at least one of the two will be crucial, but the Saints really need to win them both.
What's tough is that only three of the final 10 games are in the Superdome. The Saints are traditionally - at least lately - a good road team, but this year they are 0-2.
Yes, the Saints may well get Shockey and Colston back, but do they really need more offensive weapons?
Can this team run between the tackles with regularity? Maybe it doesn't matter...maybe this will be the New England Patriots of a few years ago with our Tom Brady (Brees) setting up the run with his controlled passing game.
What's especially tough is that this Saints team is very talented - and improved on defense, so the fact that missed field goals, penalties and turnovers could cost them a playoff spot is hard to swallow.
But, you know what, if they are as good as some now think they are, they'll win a majority of the rest of the games and make the playoffs...they'll just do it the hard way.

Saints wary of Panthers' comeback ability

Jake Delhomme has engineered 15 game-winning drives, 10 of which have come in the final two minutes of a game.

His most recent two came to open the season, bringing the Panthers back in the final 2½ minutes to beat San Diego 26-24 and helping Carolina defeat Chicago 20-17 in the final four minutes.

So when New Orleans (3-3) plays Carolina (4-2) on Sunday in Charlotte, N.C., no lead will be safe unless it's a two-score advantage with less than a minute to play.

But the Saints aren't going into the game necessarily worried about a Panthers comeback, though they are wary of one.
