Welcome back, loyal EOSB readers. We're not yet in the regular season, but the Saints are now treating things like the regular season, closing off the media today before reopening themselves on Tuesday after practice. Of course, they pretty well treated the past week like the regular season and we see where that got them - a 45-7 trouncing of Oakland. Here's your morning linkage to read while you eat your tasty beignets...
News and Notes from a short and light Saints workout: QB Drew Brees will purchase 400 In 'N' Out burgers for the Saints chartered flight home from Oakland. How special are the burgers? Brees spent about five or 10 minutes waxing poetic about the burgers you can get there. It made the media corps hungry just listening to him. Le Injury Report
First things first: The move to cut Pakulak means draft pick Thomas Morstead has won the punting job. Expect more cuts to come soon as the Saints are required to trim the roster to 75 by Tuesday. Though the Saints practice today at their indoor facility in Metairie, training camp is over. The opening chapter of 2009 is closed even if two gam...
For one final day, fans got to see lovely Metairie in all its glory, with the Saints practicing for nearly two hours at their Airline Highway facility. The final open session for the media is Thursday in the indoor facility, but it will likely be only a walk-thru with very little news coming out it. The team travels on Friday and plays on Saturday at Oakland. That said, here's what I've got for ya: Le Injury ...
The Saints announced earlier Wednesday that Thursday's practice has been moved indoors and will be closed to the public. So that means Wednesday's practice is the final one open to the public. It lasts until 1:15 p.m. so get out here if you want to see them in practice one final time. ...
Two more open practices are left for Saints fans to get a completely unfiltered look at their team. But before today's penultimate session, here are some juicy links for you to whet your appetite. The NFL officially suspended Saints place-kicker Garrett Hartley, the league announced Tuesday. "Garrett Hartley of the New Orleans Saints has been suspended without pay for the team's first four regular-season games of 2009 for violating the NFL policy on performance enhancing substances," an NFL spokesman said. Hartley admitted to taking Adderall before the Saints began offseason workouts as he was trying to stay awake duri...
The Saints started going through regular game-week preparations, working out for several hours at their Metairie practice facilities. This marks the final week of open practices for both the fans and the media. According to Sean S Usama Young is pushing hard at the safety position a...
Good morning lads and lasses. Welcome back to another fine morning at the EOSB. We're back in Metairie today, where the weather is crisp and the smell and feel of fall football is most definitely in the air. Isn't this the best time of year? (You can comment on that below) ...As camp winds down - and make no mistake, camp is basically all but over - what happens in practice becomes less and less. We've got two weeks before the season and the coaching staff isn't going to risk a serious injury because they want to go full-bore and showcase the defense's ability to tackle. So, what we get is what we saw on Monday in the Superdome, where Head Coach Sean Payton wanted to test out the new carpet.
Hello there, EOSB friends. Welcome to another week of Saints football, with a camp-like atmosphere but without the two-a-days. I know the players are happy about that. Are you? ...Per Saints PR staff: Monday, August 24 Tuesday, August 25 Wednesday, August 26 I know some people scoured the interweb at about 2 a.m. to get the freshest Saints links for the day. But for those who are just waking up or haven't yet perused the global highway, here's what you get. ...It's a New Orleans kind of weekend here in Houston - Rebirth Brass Band at Warehouse Live on Friday night, Saints play at the Texans today. The lovely EOSB readers only care about one of those, however. Rebirth was excellent. Thanks for asking. ...
It's nearly mid-morning Saints fans and I'm sure you've been dying for some Saints work. They're off today - well, not off. They're having one final walk-thru this morning, but it's closed to the media. But that doesn't mean you're not looking for stories. You might have already had your morning bagel, but while your drinking that latte to keep you awake at work, here are some links.
We've come to the slow part of the week for the Saints, who are in Houston practicing with the Texans. Thursday afternoon, the Saints practiced alone, going through a short walk-thru in the Texans' indoor bubble. The Texans went through practice inside Reliant Stadium, site of Saturday's 7 p.m. preseason game. What did we learn in the afternoon? Not much. The players were in jerseys, no pads and ...
Dear EOSB readers: Between all the brou ha ha's and melees and imbroglios and donnybrooks, the Saints and Texans did find time to practice. There was actually big news that came out of the practice. LT Jammal Brown is out indefinitely. HC Sean Payton said the big guy left for Philadelphia so he could get looked at by medical professionals. Payton said they're worried that Brown could have a spo...
I'll update the EOSB later with a full recap of practice, but here's what we have on the brawls: Jeremy Shockey, Buck Ortega, Troy Evans and unspecified Saints started fights today. Here's what you need to know in the Shockey Bout: New Orleans' Shockey got in a brawl with Houston's DeMeco Ryans. Split decision after Shockey threw a punch but Ryans and teammate Xavier Adibi took the tight end to the ground. Here's what h...
Good morning my EOSB lovelies. It's link time. Here you go for your early morning Saints time. CB Malcolm Jenkins showed why he has likely grabbed for good the first-team nickel back position during Wednesday's afternoon practice. Earlier in the day, it was >> Continue reading: Training Camp Linkage: Jenkins has big afternoon, Williams building family legacy and more! EOSB patrons, we've got little nuggets of goodness for you, nuggets I expect that you'll like and have lots of joy over. What is it? Well, whereas this morning I watched the offense, I spied the defense most of the afternoon. And though we were inside the belly of the beast - literally, the practice was moved inside a giant bubble practice facility that was very strange - there was plenty of action taking place.
I've spent just about four hours at Reliant Park, which encompasses Reliant Stadium, the Astrodome and the Texans' indoor practice facility, a.k.a. the Methodist Training Facility, and I know one thing - it has nothing on cozy and comfortable Metairie. But you didn't come to the EOSB (Eye On Saints Blog) for my travel tips. You came to find out about how the Saints looked in their first practice session with the Texans.
Goooooooood morning. Thanks for coming to the ESB today. I write to you from the lovely confines of my downtown Houston hotel room, where I can turn the AC down way low at night (for once) and not have to worry about Entergy sticking it to me on my power bill. It's no Metry here - but, really, what is? - but it's the city where your New Orleans Saints will practice and play for the next few days. Twice today against the...
Welcome back to Metairie, where the steaming heat stays away and the cooling cloud cover relieves everyone who attends Saints camp. At least on Monday. The big news - the Saints cut CB Jason David. But you already knew that thanks to intrepid reporter Michael Luke, who caught the World Wide Web up on the move at WWL-TV.com. But here's a little further deep digging by WWL-TV Producer Hasan Aquil and it deals with what the Saint...
It has been a long day, hasn't it. No Saints practice reports to read in the morning because no morning practice. But if you want something to quench your thirst while we go out and watch practice, check out these stories for now. We'll be back more in the afternoon to update you on Saints goodness. At least we'll try. It's a short practice, ending at 4:20 p.m.
It might have been cloudy and wet outside Sunday afternoon, but in the Saints indoor facility, it looked just like it always does in Metairie - warm, welcoming and friendly. Well, not friendly if you're the Saints offense. Missing Drew Brees and Reggie Bush (and I'm not saying lacking those two changed the tide), the offense only got into the end zone during Red Zone drills once and found the end one o...
Sorry for the delay in getting this up. Had to update the WWL-TV Sports Twitter account, transcribe and write a Garrett Hartley story. But now, my lovelies, I'm here to update you on Sunday's early practice. It was wonderful early in Metairie-burg. But by the end, it was cloudy, but cool. Just the way we like it. Le Injury Report
Good morning my lovely Saints fanatics. Looking for information on your New Orleans professional football franchise? Out at Metairie, where kicker John Carney and kicker Garrett Hartley both were practicing, it's another warm and fuzzy day. Carney is back, by the way, after a two-year absence. The fans must love that. Full circle. Tha...
With the Saints set to play Cincinnati on Friday night, the team went through its final preparations for the game in spacious and dry Metairie. Yeah, they were indoors today. It was raining. Good thing there's an indoor facility. Here's the news you can use (there wasn't much. It was a light practice): The Linebacker Watch
Sad that you couldn't attend Saints training camp practice today because of the rain? Here are some juicy interweb reads to tide you over: Goal line was the standout drill Tuesday morning and who won? The defense. What else can you read about the Saints?
Metairie - where cloud cover and cool breezes always make life dreamy. Then again, life is dreamy for the Saints when they cancel the afternoon practice such as they did today. The players certainly like it when HC Sean Payton does such a thing. They'll be heading out on a team bonding exercise, though location isn't known. Lots of news from Tuesday morning's practice. Let's get right to it.
And a lovely, sunny, beaming Metry morning to ya. Big day ahead for the Saints - it's their last two-a-day before the team's preseason opener on Friday against the Bengals. With only three practices left prior to that game, it's a must for the team to take advantage of all the time they have together right now.
Malcolm Jenkins likely had one thought on his mind this afternoon - thank God the Saints have an indoor facility. Because Metairie, as lovely and welcoming as it is, was downright hot on Monday. Le Injury Report According to media official Greg Bensel: Tight End Dan Campbell was placed on IR and waived G Joe McMahon. Those moves made room for G Nathan Bennett and CB Malcolm Jenkins. ...
First-round draft choice Malcolm Jenkins finally made his way to wonderful and spacious Metairie. And he brought the heat with him. Saints officials told the media the heat index was 124 degrees. Meanwhile, WWL-TV weather genius Jonathan Myers said the heat index was 99 degrees at 10 a.m. and 101 degrees at 11 a.m. Myers said the real temperature was 89 degrees at 10 a.m. and 90 at 11 a.m. Jenkins, well, he did...
Good morning, my sunshiny followers. We're about to hit practices 15 and 16, a milestone of sorts. We now hit game-week style preparations - the Saints host the Bengals on Friday night at 7 - and so we get into a little bit of a different routine. But we're still out here in glorious Metairie, where the sun is always shining, even on a rainy day. Guess what? >> Continue reading: Training Camp: Linkage - 5 Saints questions, Final roster predictions and more! Looking for news on your New Orleans Saints this lovely afternoon? So are we. There was very little to report from Friday afternoon's practice. In fact, other than injury news, the only thing that came out of the session was that Matt Landrieu is the fastest equipment manager intern. Le Injury Report
Another hot morning in the blisteringly kind colonial village of Metairie. How hot was it? TE Jeremy Shockey Tweeted about it, saying "Some serious heat outside today!! wear your sunblock and drink up..." Offensive linemen Jammal Brown and Jonathan Goodwin both left practice early with we in the media corps could only surmise as heat issue. HC Sean Payton didn't speak w...
The morning was downright stunning as I drove into beautiful Metairie. Thank goodness fans are able to attend the morning session. But fans unable to attend, here's a little interweb delight to get you through your day. We all know QB Drew Brees is a fantastic quarterback. You don't throw for more than 5,000 yards in a season if you're just adequate. During practice on Thursday, he showed just how spectacular he can be with >> Continue reading: Training Camp, Day 8: Linkage - Gruden likes the Saints, anonymous coach has influence and more!
Once Thursday's practice ended, it was one week in to Saints training camp. We know the lovely people of the friendliest village in the New Orleans metro area are happy to have the Saints back in town. Why? Because they get to see QB Drew Brees absolutely own the defense during practice, both in 7-on-7 and in the two-minute drill. Le Injury Report
Sorry for the late afternoon linkage. Afternoon practice gets me every time. Regardless, here you go. Have you joined the Twitter craze? We have here at WWL-TV.com and so, too, have the Saints. And, surprisingly, the coaching staff is on board to let their players Twitter away. Bush >> Continue reading: Training Camp, Day 7: Linkage - The Saints may Twitter away, Jenkins' absence good for other CBs and more! From Saints PR Staff: The New Orleans Saints have signed rookie free agent offensive lineman Joe McMahon, it was announced by the club today. McMahon, 6-4, 295 pounds, played one season at Central Michigan and started 12 games for the Chippewas in 2008, five at right guard and seven at center. He transferred to CMU after initially enrolling at Iowa State and then playing a season at Joliet (Ill.) Junior College, where...
I wish I could say glowing things about Metairie this afternoon to lead the blog, but we were inside the Saints' practice facility. But I'll say this, if the rest of Metairie is as glorious as that facility, then it's doing a great job. But you didn't come here to read about something you already know about, you want to read about the Saints. Short synopsis: RB Reggie Bush practiced, PK Garrett Hartley ...
It was a sunny, cloudless and downright hot morning in Metairie. Lovely, pollution free Metairie, that is. And what did we find out in the morning, when the Saints practiced in helmets, shoulder pads and shorts? RB Reggie Bush can still cause a ruckus when he's not practicing (maybe moreso), the offense likes the red zone and WR Devery Henderson and WR Skyler Green can't catch ...
Welcome to another fantastical day at Saints camp in glowing Metairie, where the sun always rises to show a sparkling community rich in friendliness. The Saints will hit the fields for the sixth day in a row. No rest for the weary this time of year. Looking for words strung together in sentence format about the Saints? You've come to the right place. For the first time this training camp, the Saints took practice outdoo...
I've discovered Metairie is lovely even in the rain. It shimmered on Tuesday. What else shimmered? The Saints' offense during practice. A crowd that withstood threatening clouds all afternoon and several brief rain bursts saw TE Jeremy Shockey impress, RB Mike Bell run hard and the offense finally get the better of the defense. Le Injury Report
Come one, come all. It's Saints link exchange time. We're flattered you're here. OK. No more stalling. S Roman Harper didn't have a down year in 2008, per se. He just didn't explode on the scene and advance his game like many thought he could and would. Well, he says this may be that year. The defense won the practice yet again, t...
It certainly was hot this afternoon in the prime suburb of Metairie, but where the Saints were practicing, it was nice and cool. Yep, indoors once more for New Orleans' professional football team. It was a short practice and while not a whole lot happened, there were some interesting items of note. Le Injury Report
One practice down, one to go on this fine Monday here in the lovely hamlet of Metairie, a bastion of friendliness and excitement on the west side of town. Three days and five practices in - did you expect the defense to begin its descent into mediocrity and divisiveness? If you said yes, well then, move along. Because what we saw at practice Monday morning was a defense that isn't getting less active, it's getting more ...
Welcome to another lovely day at the friendliest facility in the village of Metairie. Hankering for Saints news? Hanker no more. We found out last night (yesterday afternoon, really) that RB Reggie Bush has a feisty side. How do we know this? He got anger after getting tossed like a rag doll during end rush drills Sunda...
Day 3 of training camp is finished and yet again, the boys were indoors due to inclement weather. No, it wasn't raining at practice time. But the amount of water that's saturating the outdoor fields is enough to keep the team off of it. It's good for the fields and good for the players. They have a higher possibility of getting injured on a slick field. Le Injury Report
Welcome to another afternoon of Saints talk. First things first: No, Malcolm Jenkins isn't signed. Yes, the guy in front of him and the guy behind him are both signed. Does it make sense? Not exactly. Oh well. On to the link exchange! Jeff Charleston blew onto the scene a year ago as a last-minute gamble for a woefu... Looking for your afternoon Saints update? Glad you came to us. Le Injury Report
Looking for hot, melting, glorious Saints news from morning practice? Here you go: Injury Report: LT Jammal Brown walked off mid practice with a stomach ailment. WR D'Juan Woods had his abdomen wrapped with ice mid practice. The Practice O... I arrived early this morning. Didn't matter. The fans were here lined up at least 1,000 yards from the entrance, if not farther. But you didn't come here to read about my arrival time. You want to read about that Saints. Despite technical difficulties, we were out here all day Friday for Day 1 of training camp. We recapped the second session >> Continue reading: Training Camp, Day 2: Fans pour in to see Saints |
