We've come to our last practice - the team hits the field shortly for today's lone session. What have we seen thus far? QB Drew Brees looks like he's in regular season form, the defense is active as all get out and the receiving corps looks like it's going to be deep this season. But - and story commenter buytheplace will be happy to hear this - I still have questions about the defensive backfield and the defensive ends have a ways to go if DE Will Smith and DE Charles Grant don't have the appeal go their way. I'll have a column on Monday expressing my feelings of camp, a wrap-up if you may. Also coming this afternoon - an unofficial two-deep from WWL-TV.com. Fun, right? So, what did others write about yesterday afternoon? We've all heard about how wonderful the defense is going to be now that Gregg Williams is here. Don't buy it quite yet, says The Gambit Weekly's Clay Smith. In The (Baton Rouge) Advocate, my man Les East takes a look at CB Tracy Porter, who says he's ready to get going where he left off last year before his season-ending injury. There were three fights in the first three practices, but by Saturday afternoon, there was only one. The Times-Picayune's Brian Allee-Walsh said the better behavior is a result of paying attention to an edict by Head Coach Sean Payton, who said positions aren't won in June. And then there's Sean Payton, the movie writer. Yep, you read that right. The T-P's Mike Triplett says Payton is looking for a movie house to pick up a screen play he came up with about a video-playing child. ESPN.com's Pat Yasinskas writes a cornucopia of goodness if you're a Saints fan. It's here. |
