Saints' Brees still in the business of learning

4:31 PM Tue, Mar 31, 2009 |
Bradley Handwerger

Sometimes the NFL gets it right.

Case in point, the league's continuing education courses. Certainly, it's partly on the players to take part in something like this, but the fact that the NFL gives players an opportunity to further their education, well, that's a good thing.

And New Orleans' uber-smart starting quarterback is, of course, taking a...

3:57 PM Tue, Mar 31, 2009 |
Chad Bower

NFL.com held a very cool feature today, where Saints coach Sean Payton fielded questions from fans in a chat. Most of the questions were submitted beforehand, but it's a nice sign that the NFL is looking to make their online experience more interactive.

He answered questions, among many others, about Lance Moore's long-term future with the team, newly acquired defensive coordi...

3:16 PM Tue, Mar 31, 2009 |
Bradley Handwerger

It's never too early for preseason picks and the Sporting News thinks with the moves New Orleans made this offseason and with the moments of brilliance the team showed at times in 2008, the Saints are set for a momentous season.

Yep, along with Pittsburgh, Dallas and New England, Vinnie Iyer at sportingnews.com thinks New Orleans will be one of the league's top four ...

Think Millsaps was a far ride? Think again

4:04 PM Mon, Mar 30, 2009 |
Chad Bower

Most southeast Louisiana Saints fans, and especially members of the media, have to be ecstatic after the news that the team is moving its training camp back from Jackson, MS to Metairie. The three-hour ride from the metro area to Jackson, while manageable, just wasn't as convenient as the team's brief stint in Metairie from 2003-2005.

But looking at...

Bleacher Report: Saints lead draft "have nots"

11:45 AM Mon, Mar 30, 2009 |
Bradley Handwerger

Like we needed anymore confirmation that the Saints have an unenviable position in this draft, bleacherreport.com said the New Orleans franchise leads the league as the leading "have not" team.

That is to say, four total picks and one in the top 100 isn't exactly a great position to be in.

Good thing New Orleans was activ...

Saints offseason moves: Your thoughts?

3:41 PM Thu, Mar 26, 2009 |
Bradley Handwerger

As we approach the beginning of offseason workouts, which begin in the next week or so, the question is how have the Saints done this year in regard to free agency.

New Orleans signed a bevy of new players and also picked up a new defensive coordinator.

Saints should use high draft pick for DE

8:08 PM Tue, Mar 17, 2009 |
Tom Planchet

Bleacher Report.com, says that despite having plenty of money invested in defensive ends Charles Grant and Will Smith, the Saints should go with a defensive end with their top draft pick due to an inability to get pressure on the opposing QBs.

Saints sign C Leckey

7:53 PM Tue, Mar 17, 2009 |
Chad Bower

The New Orleans Saints have signed on Tuesday free agent center Nick Leckey to a one-year contract.

Leckey, a 27-year-old five-year NFL veteran, has played for the Arizona Cardinals and the St. Louis Rams. He was a sixth rounder in the 2004 NFL draft out of Kansas State. Since then, he's appeared in 57 games, starting 32 of them.

Leckey's season was cut short last year after the Rams put him on injured reserve with a broken bo...

Former Saints coach Haslett, former Falcon's QB Vick back in football

3:55 PM Wed, Mar 11, 2009 |
Bradley Handwerger

Jim Haslett, welcome back to the coaching fold.

Michael Vick, maybe you, too.

Yes, in this period of economic uncertainty and recession, a group of people have decided that the XFL wasn't the last attempt at usurping the NFL as the nation's top football destination for fans.

Haslett will coach the Orlando, Fla., franchise of the new UF...

LaDainian to stay a Charger

10:58 PM Tue, Mar 10, 2009 |
Chad Bower

Well, so much for that.

After wide speculation from the media and fans that LaDainian Tomlinson might become a Saint, the Charger resigned with his teams in a three-year contract Tuesday night, according to the Associated Press.

It's a decision that doesn't surprise Eyewitness News Sports Director Jim Henderson, who said there was just...

LaDainian to Saints makes sense to Peter King

12:01 PM Tue, Mar 10, 2009 |
Tom Planchet

Brees would love to see LaDainian in N.O.

2:29 PM Mon, Mar 09, 2009 |
Tom Planchet

Drew Brees would love to have his old buddy LaDainian Tomlinson with the Saints.

No, this definitely would not be the second coming of the reunion of Kenny Stabler and Earl Campbell. Each of these guys still has some gas left in the tank, especially Brees.

Saints free agent shopping heads back to secondary

1:20 PM Tue, Mar 03, 2009 |
Bradley Handwerger

We've talked about this ad nauseam pretty much since the beginning of the 2008 season.

But the Saints need secondary help.

Larry Holder of the Biloxi Sun-Herald thinks now that Jonathan Vilma and Jon Stinchcomb have been signed, that's precisely where the team is looking in free agency.

According to you, our readers, what is the most-needed fi...

Saints making strong sell on free agents

12:27 PM Tue, Mar 03, 2009 |
Bradley Handwerger

Yes, the news that Rams cornerback Ron Bartell is sticking with St. Louis over New Orleans isn't what we'd deem breaking news, pretty much in any business.

But you've got to read between the lines in this one.

There's...
