Like him or not, Mel Kiper is usually pretty close in his picks - which, or course will change closer to the actual draft - anyway, he likes Malcolm Jenkins of Ohio State to go to the Saints with th... At least according to Bucky Brooks of CNNSI.com. Brooks rates Stinchomb as number 11 and Vilma as number 12. I've always been wary of the Saints retaining guys once they get on the open market, because, truthfully, the Saints now have no more right to these guys than any other team. My guess is that the Saints will lose some guys they'd like... The free agency period got off to a ridiculous start with the Redskins giving the Titans' Haynesworth a $100 million deal. CNNSI's Peter King has more rumors, including that the suddenly cash-happy Bucs are targeting the Saints Jonathan Vilma. Having played against him twice last year, looks like they know something. ...Saints receiver Lance Moore is on a list of free agents that USA Today thinks could be the next 'Michael Turner.' Of course, they have Deuce on the list of the most sought after free agent running backs. ...Peter King of CNNSI tells the story of Drew Brees acting as a mentor of sorts for Matt Stafford of Georgia, who is thought to be one of the top players in this coming NFL Draft. ...Bleacher Report addresses the idea that Reggie Bush isn't nearly as good as some people thought he would be, but he did say that Bush isn't nearly as bad as some say. My take is that Bush has tons of potential, but not as a Deuce McAllister (of old), every down back. ...Not a big surprise, but FOX Sports lists the Saints biggest offseason needs as: 1-safety, 2- corner, 3 - running back. ...ESPN's NFC South blogger Pat Yasinskas said the Saints release of Deuce had to happen because the Saints need a young , powerful running back to go with Thomas and Bush and because Deuce's salary would prevent such a move. Still, he agreed with all the fans that Deuce was and is a class act and would be missed. ...

Here's one from the 'you don't hear this every day' file: A member of a financial advisor firm that Josh Bullocks is a part owner of is getting sued by...drumrolll... Michael Vick. The Daily Press in Newport News, Va., is reporting this. Bullocks, along with his brother and Detroit Lion Daniel Bullocks and Kansas City Chief Demorrio Williams, are three of the four owners of a firm that goes by the name of Williams and Bullocks,... Drew Brees takes up for former Union Chief Gene Upshaw in an article on USA Today and says that while some former players claims of hardship are real and need help and disability, some have made bad decisions with their money and have only themselves to blame for their current situation. ...The New York Times has a story on the 'Forlorn Five,' the five NFL teams that have not played in a Super Bowl. The Saints, of course, are on that dubious list as many newer franchises have started up and rushed right past them into the game's biggest spotlight. ... |
