Larry Holder of the Biloxi Sun-Herald says the list of candidates to become Saints defensive coordinator could be a little lengthy as several coordinators have been released from their jobs already. But he thinks the Saints could go another way, waiting to talk with coaches of teams still in the playoffs. That means the search could take longer than fans would like. 2 CommentsLeave a comment |

It's about the right person, not the quickest choice, not pleasing the fans, but someone who will get results
Well, we got our defensive line coach from Denver and I'm not impressed. Below are the stats and ranking (in parenthesis) for Denver's 2008 defense versus the Saints defense. The Saints did better across the board! We even managed a surprising and somewhat respectable 17th ranking against the run.
After the 2006 season, Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Larry Coyer was fired. Assistant head coach/defense Jim Bates replaced him and actually fared worse in 2007. Bill Johnson, our new D line coach, has been with Denver the past 2 seasons so one must assume he's had some role in these sorry statistics. This has me concerned to say the least! Sorry Bill Johnson, but we need excellence at all levels for our defense, not mediocrity, and certainly not "bottom of the barrel" rankings in every category.
The right D coordinator is very important to the success of our defense, so shouldn't he have some say in the D line coaches before we go and choose them? Shouldn't he bring in his own support staff that shares his approach and philosophy? Just my take on things, which I think makes more sense. But then again, I'm just a girl.... so what do I know about football? ;-)
