Right now, they say Warner has the lead. But Brees' finishing five week could ultimately determine the race. ...Alex Marvez of FOX Sports says he can only wonder what it was like in 1973 to see the Buffalo Bills squander O.J. Simpson's 2,000-yard rushing season, but he thinks he might be seeing something similar in N.O. this year as the Saints struggle to stay in the playoff race despite an unbelievable season by Brees. ...ESPN's Kevin Seifert says the Packers' locker room had heads hanging as they admitted to being embarrassed in front of a national audience. Seifert lauds what he called a 'nearly perfect game' from Drew Brees. ...Pat Yasinskas of ESPN ponders whether or not the Saints may be hitting their stride too late to make a difference in a very competitive NFC South. Though he does acknowledge the offense looked awesome Monday night. ...(Game over) The win helps keep the Saints' postseason hopes alive. According to the NFL.com blog, Saints coach Sean Payton is optimistic that running back Reggie Bush will return to the lineup this coming Monday night. ...Thursday notes: "Just some swelling in his left knee," head coach Sean Payton said. "It was maintenance and just monitoring where he's at. They drained it yesterday and we wanted to rest him today and see if it could calm down some." • ... From the Associated Press: Tailback Aaron Stecker will miss the rest of this season with a hamstring injury. Stecker became the 13th member of the Saints' injured reserve list Tuesday. Stecker had been battling his injury since the first week of the season. He aggravated it on a 12-yard catch early in the first quarter Sunday at Kansas City and left the game. ...Mike Detillier, in a column written prior to Sunday's win at Kansas City, fooled a lot of 'experts' prior to the season, with many having the Black and Gold headed for the NFC South championship and possibly more. ...

Pat Yasinskas is joining the the number of people trying to figure out just what the Vilma and Shockey trades could cost the Saints in the draft. According to Yasinskas' research, if the deal for Vilma reached 'second round pick status,' the Saints would owe the Giants a #1 for Shockey, but that would be in 2010's draft. ...As if the Saints didn't need more bad news, the team's Mr. Everything, Reggie Bush, is looking less likely to play Sunday.In the meantime, all of the Kansas City papers are raving about how the Chiefs are getting better and better. ...Calling him the most overrated player in recent sports history Mike Freeman really unloads on Jeremy Shockey and says the Saints got taken in this deal. ...Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com originally trumpeted the Saints acquisition of Jeremy Shockey, but now he's not so sure. ...Tom Thomasen of Bleacher Report wonders is up for the job of coaching the Saints and suggests that teams have figured out that he doesn't like to run the football, so they strictly play the pass. ...With Tracy Porter and Mike McKenzie on the Injured Reserve and with cornerback Aaron Glenn fighting a bum ankle, New Orleans went out and signed former Redskins cornerback Leigh Torrence, the Wasington Post reported Monday afternoon.
