ESPN.com asked fans to vote for the best player in their franchise's history and they have questions about the responders' pick of Bobby Hebert.

Conrad said:

Hebert was a player who came into the NFL because of the 87 stike and would have never gotten to the field otherwise.

Kirk Boudreaux said:

I vote Rickey Jackson1
The man was an elite Defensive player.
This guy once played with his mouth wired shut!
Domepatrol baby!

Frank said:

Conrad I think you are confusing Hebert with John Fourcade

What idiot savant put Bobby Hebert on the list (of choices) in the first place?

Bobby Hebert wasn't even the best Quarterback in Saints history. Bobby Hebert epitomizes the stagnant mediocrity of a generation of losing Saints teams. He betrayed the Saints, joined the Falcons, and then had the audacity to criticize Joe Horn for doing the same thing. Billy Joe Hobert or Tyler Palko would be better choices.

Saying that Bobby Hebert is the greatest Saint is like saying Garo Yupremian was the greatest Dolphin, or Jason David and Fred Thomas are our greatest defensive backs.

You want to talk about great Saints:

1. Archie Manning -- WOULD HAVE been a first ballot Hall of Famer if he had played with a real team.
2. Ricky Jackson - Enough Said.
3. Sam Mills - See above.
4. Pat Swilling - Ditto.
5. Vaughn Johnson - Ditto again.
6. Deuce McAllister - A TRUE hero who is almost solely responsible for the Saints making it to their one and only NFC title game.
7. Drew Brees - Also a key hero in the resurgence of the Saints and the city.

Bobby Hebert? Give me a break.

Rickey "Da City Champ" Jackson or Eric martin are 1a and 1b players in Saints history. Bobby"go to ATL" Hebert, no way, no way no way.

Ted said:

After further review, this whole discussion about Bobby Hebert is ludicrous. This suggesion, that Hebert is the greatest Saint, should go down in Saints history as one of the biggest gaffs since Russel Erxleben.

WHO IN THE WORLD WOULD SUGGEST SUCH A THING? Somebody who knows NOTHING of Bobby Hebert and the Saints.

Willie Roaf is the obvious choice for greatest Saints player ever. He is the only certian football HOFer. Jackson was a great player, but falls behind Roaf as far as I'm concerned. And for all the Bobby Haters, well just remember he did lead us to the playoffs and to our first non losing season. Albeit based on defense, he did give our offense more consistency than his predecessors. Definate loss of points for jumping ship to the Falclowns, but hey....but again, just remember, this is what makes football, and sports in general, so great, gives everyone a chance to have an opinion and judge things differently. Theres no possible way, statistically or otherwise to truly compare these players since they didn't play the same position, so its going to be a wide variety of answers out there as to who the Greatest Saints player is....

I agree with Ted's list...excellent choices!

Charles said:

These people that voted for Bobby Hebert as the greatest saints player are probably the same people that voted for George W. Bush. You folks couldn't vote the correct way than and you're sure as heck aren't voting the correct way now! Rickey Jackson is the greatest saint hands down!

joey said:

hey, i think bobby j, as he is known in my, oh, our hometown of cutoff! was a great saints player. teds list is excellent, very, but any louisianian worth his salt would have to put bobby j right in there! without a doubt

While I would not vote Bobby Hebert as the best Saints player, his QuarterBack Rating for at least two seasons did stay in the no.1 or no.2 spot in the NFL. His competition was Joe Montana. Give him some credit!

The truth of the matter is this, no as much I do like Bobby Hebert he wasn't/isn't the greatest Saint to have played the game. He did lead us to our first playoff game, but let's remember the score 42-7 against the Minnesota Vikings. We couldn't pay for an offensive score that day.

The greatest Saint is indeed Ricky Jackson. He was a warrior. He stuck in there and played. He came up with big plays when it counted. As a matter of fact, our greatest player was that whole core of linebackers. Hat's off to Ricky, Pat, Vaughn and the late great Sam Mills (field mouse). GO DOME PATROL AND RJ.

Dee said:

Bobby Hebert was the winningest Saint QB....
Aaron Brooks got the Saints over the playoff hump...
Drew Brees took the team further than any other Saints QB...

But the greatest Saint was/IS Archie Manning, with Morten Andersen and The Dome Patrol not too far behind.

Poca Guy said:

Archie has to be right up there. Without Archie coming to the Saints when he did, we probably wouldn't have the Saints today. Ricky, Dalton Hillard, George Rodgers all come to mind as pretty much doing the same. They were in the right place at the right time or we could have easily been the Los Angeles, Houston, or San Antonio Saints.

The cajun cannon are you kidding me, Aaron Brooks was a better QB and that's not saying much. At least Aaron won a playoff game for us. Bobby choke in every big game we had, do yall remember the Vikings game. Our best player hands down was Wille Roaf hopefully he'll choose us to represent him in the Hall of Fame. No one else has Hall of fame numbers. Sorry my cajun folk down da bayou
