Saints Training Camp Day 4 - Special teams rule the morning

As Sunday arrived, so did a change in New Orleans two-a-day schedule. Beginning today, the team will go through a special teams walk-through during the morning today, Tuesday and Thursday.

The afternoon practice is the more meaningful one. it'll begin at 3:40 p.m. instead of the normal 4:20.

As for Sunday's morning session, not much to report. There was some kicking, some punting and some returning. Mostly, though, it was getting technique and such down.

It also gave some starters a chance to rest and relax and prepare for the afternoon session.

If I were a betting man - and I'm not - I'd say Reggie Bush has a legit chance of being the team's punt returner. That, of course, likely depends on Deuce McAllister and how his knee holds up. If McAllister's knee is fine, Bush won't have to be the main back as often, meaning he'll have a chance to return punts.

If it's not Bush, I think Skyler Green is outperforming Lance Moore right now in the punt return game. I'm fairly certain few others in the media horde covering the Saints' training camp shares my thought on this. Let's just call it a gut feeling right now.

To me, it appears Green is fielding the ball cleaner than Moore. And while Moore is fighting for a spot as a receiver, as well, Green pretty much needs to put all is eggs in the return basket. Good thing that's his specialty.

There's still a ways to go in camp, though.

Other than that, the only thing that stood out to me this morning was Mark Brunell, who had his first so-so practice. He was a bit high on several throws.

He's still a better option than Jamie Martin was and is a whole lot better than Tyler Palko, the team's third-string QB.

I'll have more in the afternoon.
