June 2008 ArchivesDespite having the fifth best receiver in the NFC, according to ratings by Sporting News, the Saints only have a recieving corps in the middle of the pack. ...Only Drew Brees, who checks in at number 35, is on the list of Pete Prisco's Top 50 players in the league. Also, and not surprisingly, it is fairly well established now that Houston made a wise choice when they picked Mario Williams over Reggie Bush with the top pick in the NFL Draft. Williams checks in as the 6th best player overall. ...Mike Detillier thinks the Saints would be wise to consider obtaining Lamont Jordan as some help at running back, though he thinks the price may be a bit high. ...Ross Tucker over at SI.com recently put online a list of 32 players who need to perform in 2008. Guess what? Reggie Bush made the list. Not exactly the list he was looking to make, however. What say you? What kind of impact does Bush have to make this year for him to continue to be a favorite? ...USA Today has its Saints offseason preview and it says the Saints had a hangover from its championship game season of 2006. Drew Brees is quick to add that his worst season with the Chargers was followed by his best. ...Larry Holder of the Biloxi Sun-Herald reports that wide receiver Marques Colston skipped out on Monday's OTA. Head coach Sean Payton apparently stressed, however, that OTAs are voluntary and Colston likely has a good excuse. The rumors have been out there for much of the morning and now the Saints have made it official, sending out a press release this afternoon. Vice President of Player Personnel Rick Mueller is no longer with the franchise as it's "restructuring" the Player Personnel Department. The club also hired Khai Harley to become the Director of Football Administration. Harley's previous job was with the league as the manager of labor oper... Pete Prisco reports that the Saints have fired Rick Mueller. There was no explanation. There has been no official word from the Saints. ...New Orleans signed two players Tuesday - free agent cornerback Jerametrius Butler and center Marquay Love. Butler has been around for eight years, playing six years with the Rams before holding down a spot with the Bills a year ago. He 218 career tackles and nine interceptions in 71 games. Love has been on the league only a year, signing with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in 2007. He was cut in the final round of rost... New Orleans defensive end Will Smith, stuck in contract negotiations with the Saints, stuck around for OTAs after participating in this past weekend's minicamp. While the minicamp was mandatory, OTAs are not, and as such, Smith hadn't attended any of the voluntary workouts until this week.
