Glad you asked.
We'll start with Mickey Loomis, Saints GM:
Asked about risk-reward guys, he said -
"Part of it is when you look at our roster, there are a lot of positions where it'd be hard for a rookie to come in and make our team. And then you look at the upside. You look at a player and wonder if they can develop into a potential starter."
Asked about OT Carl Nicks and his off-field troubles, he said -
"We spent a lot of time talking about that. Our conclusion was there wasn't anything major in his background. A lot of small incidents, but we're not overlooking them. Sean Payton talked to him on the phone before we drafted him and confronted him about our concerns. He said the right things."
Asked about trading up two spots to get DeMario Pressley, he said -
"We like him as a player and felt like he had an upside. We got just a little nervous that he might go in the spot before us. The team in front of us we thought had a need at that position, and, in fact, took a player at that position. We just got a little nervous. The cost to move a 7th round pick wasn't very heavy we feel."
Sean Payton, head coach
Asked about Nicks' "character" issues -
"We didn't feel in his case it was as much real bad character as much as maturity issues. He does have some real good physical skills. We had a real good visit, about half an hour long."
Asked about, well, he didn't really answer this question. But it was a good answer -
"Yesterday, we were thrilled when we could get up in a position to get Ellis. When I'm driving home last night and I'm looking at where we were starting the day off with the 10th pick in the draft, I felt we got a player who was better than the 10th pick in the draft."
About picking up a free agent quarterback -
"We'd like to. There is a fourth spot and an opportunity to come in and compete. Two guys. We'll see what happens. Oftentimes they'll get drafted in (the seventh round)."
