Jim's final thoughts...

Voice of the Saints Jim Henderson and WWL-TV ace has some final thoughts on the Saints' draft:

About his first impression -
"Sean said it best - every head coach is going to tell you the same thing. There's no one among the other 31 coaches saying we had a bad draft.

"I also feel he makes another good point. Who won? Who lost out of this draft? We all want instant approval or be an instant critic and you can't (have instant approval for) any draft. At first blush, that 2006 draft looked like an all-timer. A year after that, it's not looking like that. Reggie bush is looking like a bust after two years and Marques Colston is looking like a solid pro. Jahri Evans, he probably didn't have as good as year last year as he did his rookie year.

"It's diffiicult and not fair to put wins and losses at first blush. That's the most important thing.

In regard to filling needs -
"They definitely filled needs. The No. 1 need on this team was defensive tackle. Second biggest need was corner, and they went 1-2. The offensive line is strong, so that maybe was a bit of a surprise.

"I like the pick of the kicker. Usually you're going to bring a free-agent leg to camp that you know isn't going to win the job. They're going to bring this kid in knowing he can win the job. They got damaged goods last year on Olindo Mare and it bit them in the butt.

"I'm not telling you this kid is going to be the next Morten Andersen, but i like the philosophy.

His overall thought about if the draft and trades went as expected -
"What I thought they'd do is try to get up for Glenn Dorsey, find it was too rich for him, get up for (Sedrick) Ellis and that's what happened.

"As for Tracy Porter, getting him in the second round might be a little surprising because they had him rated a little higher.

His final overall thoughts on the draft -
"Very media-friendly draft. It went by fast. They traded out of seventh round pick and we were able to sleep in a little later Sunday, not that I did, because they traded away their third and fourth pick. It'll receive widespread accolades around the country...from the media.
